Job Overview

The Senior Director, Site Merchandising is a strategic category expert in digital commerce who is responsible for leading teams to optimize the customer's discovery and selection of products on Macys.com and our Mobile Apps. This critical leadership role is deeply engaged in the business and works with partners across the enterprise to achieve business results and provide our customer with a superior shopping experience.

The Senior Director builds engaged and highly functional teams and partnerships across the Macy's enterprise. This critical leadership role is responsible for developing agile teams that thrive on results and are positioned to pivot and react to business opportunities with thoughtful solutions as needs change and opportunities arise. The Senior Director develops and implements plans in support of our business strategies and leads their teams in executing towards these strategies. The Senior Director works closely with colleagues and leaders across functional teams to streamline, simplify and automate processes and ways of working. The Senior Director is highly analytical, organized and possesses great communication and presentation skills.

What You Will Do

Team Leadership:



  • Lead a team to achieve business results and KPIs by optimizing the customers' shopping journey across all devices and experiences.
  • Coach leaders to attract, retain, engage, and develop colleagues across various experience levels.
  • Empower the team to remove obstacles.
  • Develop an Agile Team capable of reacting to business changes with successful solutions.
  • Inspire and motivate talent with a future-oriented mindset.
  • Foster open communication and value open debate to ensure the best ideas are realized.


Drive Business Revenue and Conversion:



  • Make decisions that prioritize the company's interests.
  • Possess strategic expertise in categories, understanding customer needs, competitive landscape, and business priorities.
  • Develop strategies to increase revenue and maximize sales opportunities.
  • Cultivate a collaborative culture within Site Merchandising and across all cross-functional partners, including Merchants, Marketing, and Digital.
  • Embrace risk-taking and celebrate it within the team.
  • Maintain focus on vision and outcomes, allowing others to make decisions without hierarchical approval.


Innovation and Additional Responsibilities:



  • Collaborate with enhancement and experimentation teams to boost sales and conversion rates.
  • Optimize Personalization enhancements and Digital store execution to align with the Omni-strategy.
  • Partner with the Vendor Direct Team to drive growth through improved navigation and enhanced taxonomy.
  • Maintain ongoing curiosity about emerging market trends and drive innovation.
  • Stay ahead of trends and embrace new ideas and technologies.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities


Skills You Will Need

Strategic Thinking: Understanding of business issues and opportunities and ability to translate them into a vision, strategy, and action plan.

Solution Orientation: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis and the ability to determine the root cause of problems and create alternative solutions that resolve the problems in the best interest of the business.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and use judgment to make sound decisions.

Communication: Excellent communication and facilitation skills (oral, written, and listening) for a variety of audiences. Ability to understand, organize, and communicate complex information in an easily understandable format tailored to a variety of audiences.

Change Management: Ability to align the organization's people and culture with changes in business strategy, organizational structure, technology, and business processes. Act as a change agent to implement and manage significant change initiatives that have a material impact to the organization.

Collaboration: Ability to build partnerships with key business stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage smarter decision-making across our organization. Collaboration skills are critical.

Business Acumen: Awareness of the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, and values. Knowledge, insight, and understanding of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this appropriately to diverse situations.

Functional Proficiency: Knowledge of major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the enterprise.

Data Literacy: Must have superior analytical and mathematical skills, including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. MBA preferred.
  • 12-15 years relevant professional experience required. 10-12 years of experience in retail/e-commerce/online product management, strategy and/or consulting and leading & managing direct and indirect reports.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
