Lubbock Rodeo Coach 40087BR Animal and Food Sciences Position Description Rodeo Advisor/Coach will coach both the men's and women's rodeo team and the rodeo club. Recruit and mentor students interested in the rodeo team. Supervise team practices. Represent Texas Tech University at rodeo events, fund raisers, and other related functions. Oversee maintenance of TTU rodeo facilities and equipment in coordination with the Executive Director of the TTU Equestrian Center. Procure livestock for team use and care for the livestock. Coordinate fund raising activities and stewardship. Work with Southwest Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Work with TTU Rodeo Advisory Board. Manage financial aspects of the Rodeo Program including scholarships. Travel with the team to regional and national rodeo competitions. Be the faculty/staff sponsor of the Rodeo Team. Coordinate all aspects of travel, competitor entries, competitor eligibility, and team and NIRA rules. Set and enforce high standards of performance and exemplary behavior for team members. Be responsible for producing the Regional Rodeo held at Texas Tech University. Be a team player in the TTU Equine program. About the Department and/or College The Department of Animal and Food Sciences is one of six departments within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University. The department is housed in a modern research and teaching facility and has excellent teaching and research support and animal facilities both on and off-campus. The department has a strong undergraduate program in Animal and Food Sciences with over 800 undergraduates and is the home of many competitive teams and student organizations. Major/Essential Functions The Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University is seeking applications for a Rodeo Head Coach. This position requires student interaction and is responsible for maintaining a high standard of management, animal care, and worker and student safety. The candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the daily operations of the Rodeo program and team at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center. In addition, the candidate will be expected to assist with rodeo technique focused courses or course activities that utilize the facility and/or its livestock. Good communication skills and positive, supportive interactions with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders are essential. This position is vital to ensuring the success of daily operations, as well as fulfillment of Texas Tech University teaching, research, outreach, and engagement missions.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with three to five years of experience in collegiate rodeo with rodeo skills in one or more events. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree preferred. Previous experience in managing and coaching a collegiate rodeo team.
