Position Highlights |
The Family Engagement Program (FEP) at Pima County Cooperative Extension (PCCE) seeks applications for a Senior Instructional Specialist. As part of the Family Engagement Program, this position delivers classes to parents and caregivers to help them improve parenting, child behavior management, early childhood development and financial literacy. The incumbent will be responsible for becoming familiar with all aspects of FEP and trained in specific family engagement curricula. They will also collect evaluation data as needed by funders. Finally, the instructor will serve as a member of the FEP team, attending regular staff meetings and contributing to overall goals of the program. FEP offers classes in a variety of locations throughout Pima County from Family Resource Centers to the state prison. While FEP currently has a need for classes to be taught in Family Resource Centers to caregivers and their children aged birth to five, the location and content of classes this instructor will teach will ultimately be determined by a combination of program needs, incumbent skills, suitability and preference. This position will report to the Family, Consumer and Health Sciences Agent who leads the Family Engagement Program. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Facilitates community education:
- Teaches classes to the community on topics that could include brain development, child behavior management, early childhood development or financial literacy. - Schedule classes with community partners. - Set up, deliver and break down classes. - Coordinates with childcare and picks up food for classes on rare occasions as needed. - Make referrals for families to community partners. - Help program meet goals established by funders. - Contributes to FEP goals and grant obligations:
-Works with Program Coordinator to schedule classes. -Maintains class attendance. -Administers class evaluation tools and ensures any hard copies are entered into electronic databases. -Attends regular FEP staff meetings and contributes to annual target service units. -Adheres to business office policies to reconcile expenses and travel.
- Represents FEP in the community:
- Attends community building meetings or meetings held by funding sources on an as needed basis. - Develops partnerships to increase outreach and visibility of FEP. - Share program goals with community partners. - Identify new sites and populations for program delivery. - Help fill gaps in service delivery for parents in Pima County.

- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to present comfortably to both children and adults.
- Ability to share knowledge without judgment - recognizing the caregiver as the expert on their children.
- Ability to model positive parenting techniques.
- Ability to operate as a team player.
- Ability to inspire children with engaging activities on their level.
- Ability to adjust to changing schedules and content of class delivery as needed.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
- Minimum of one-year relevant experience teaching caregivers and/or children aged five and under.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Direct experience serving as a primary caregiver of children.
- Certification in various parent education curricula such as Triple P.
