Overview

Veterans Financial Aid Certification Specialist

The Veterans Financial Aid Certification Specialist ensures the accurate and timely review and submission of VA certifications, including dual certifications and status changes, across all campuses. This role collaborates with campus staff to resolve outstanding requirements, such as Veterans Rights and Responsibility forms and transcript submissions. Additionally, the specialist supports campus VA audits by gathering required documents, completing necessary paperwork, and managing catalog submissions to maintain compliance with VA regulations.

    Work Location: Remote
  • Hourly Range: $20 to $25 per hour

Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities & Deliverables

  • Accurately review and submit Veterans' Affairs' (VA) certifications in compliance with VA regulations
  • Process initial and dual certifications per class
  • Complete timely status changes for graduates and withdrawals
  • Assist the Manager in gathering documentation and supporting campus VA compliance surveys and visits
  • Stay informed about changes in federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Federal regulations/procedures per the annual Federal Handbook
  • Participate in monthly VA calls to stay informed on updates and requirements
  • Monitor campus completion of annual VA training to ensure compliance
  • Monitor and verify documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • Review and process Tungsten and VR&E updates
  • Maintain active enrollment manager credentials
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • HS Diploma / GED (required); Associate degree in business, accounting, finance or other related field (preferred)
  • Minimum one (1) year experience performing data entry and professional customer service experience (required)
  • Veterans Affair School Certifying Official experience (preferred)
  • Familiarity with VA, Department of Education, and institutional policies related to financial aid and veterans' benefits
  • Must not currently be in default on any federal student loans or go into default on any federal student loans while employed

  • Understanding of GI Bill programs, Vocational Rehabilitation (VR&E), and other veteran education benefits
  • Actively look for ways to assist with employee's needs
  • Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do
  • Identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

  • Basic level proficiency with productivity software (MS Office), student information systems, and Veterans Administration platforms

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on site at assigned company location. Employees must be able to safely ambulate when on company premises.
  • This position is designated as remote. Employees must meet minimum technical standards for eligibility and participation.
