Job Summary

The Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences and Resnick Sustainability Institute at Caltech seeks a dedicated InSAR Processing Analyst to support education and research on a variety of different applications of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) geodesy. Responsibilities include regional InSAR processing, maintenance of state-of-the-art InSAR processing tools, training others in the use of these tools, and engagement in a variety of research projects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with science and engineering teams at JPL. Additionally, the successful candidate will oversee a database of globally distributed GNSS observations.

Essential Job Duties

  • Conduct large-scale processing of satellite-acquired InSAR data for use in geophysical studies of earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, aquifers, the cryosphere, and other geophysical applications.
  • Focus will be on the use of data from the upcoming NISAR mission as well as other ongoing and past missions from the international constellation of InSAR-capable satellites.
  • A component of the work will involve calibration and validation of the NISAR observations. The successful candidate will also assist in training new researchers (students, postdoctoral scholars, and visitors) in the use of state-of-the-art InSAR processing and post-processing tools.
  • Manage databases, particularly of regularly updated GNSS data from globally distributed locations.
  • May include time for individual research if desired.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • MS or PhD with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in geophysics, remote sensing, or comparable disciplines.
  • Documented history of prior experience in InSAR time series processing, including use of different correction layers and use of different satellites.
  • Prior experience with large-scale computational projects.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Python and Jupyter Notebooks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Use of GNSS observations.
  • Understanding of geodetic reference frames.
  • Development of large-scale geophysical inverse problems.
  • Prior work with databases used for organizing large-scale processing.
  • Prior use of and/or software development with GPUs.
  • Experience with visualization of large data sets.
  • An understanding of how to make results easily available using common web interfaces.

Hiring Range

$85,000 to $118,500 per year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
