The Histology Manager is responsible for providing leadership, training, project management, client communication, and general oversight of daily histology operations, with direct management over appointed personnel. This role ensures efficient workflow, compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), and alignment with company objectives. Additionally, the Histology Manager fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement while driving team performance and engagement. *This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. This is a salaried position ranging from $92,000 - $110,000. Leadership and Management * Oversee and manage the daily performance and development of the histology team * Set clear goals and expectations for team members, ensuring alignment with department and company objectives * Conduct 1:1 reviews, provide constructive feedback, and implement development plans * Foster a team-oriented environment that encourages collaboration, communication, and accountability * Identify staffing needs and assist in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new team members * Address personnel issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and employee concerns * Encourage process improvement initiatives and ensure team alignment with evolving best practices * Ability and willingness to collaborate with Histology team Director, team lead and other department heads General * Interact with clients, employees, and the community in a professional manner * Support and participate in company initiatives * Perform other duties as assigned Specific * Mastery level in the processing of tissue samples according to laboratory protocols * Mastery level in the skill of embedding tissue into paraffin blocks * Mastery level in microtomy and ability to generate quality tissue sections and mount tissue on glass slides * Examine blocks and or slides to identify anatomical landmarks macroscopically or microscopically to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements * Proficient to mastery level of knowledge in alternate histology techniques (examples might include cryosectioning) * Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of all laboratory equipment * Document and maintain study records to comply with appropriate company and regulatory requirements Histology Project Management * Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for study design, quotes and scopes of work. * Oversee SOP creation, review and revision * Manage workflow by adding new work to the WIP queue, updating Smartsheets, and prioritizing deadline-driven studies * Sign off in ESM, Smartsheets and appropriate servers, ensuring updates are accurately maintained * Oversee the thorough completion and quality control (QC) of study documentation, including wet signatures * Prepare and apply company labels for all study-related materials * Ensure the proper transfer of materials from Histology to designated departments/locations Histology Duties * Manage equipment use and maintenance, including PM maintenance, troubleshooting, oversight and documentation compliance for:
* Serve as the primary contact for service technicians regarding preventative maintenance and troubleshooting * Ensure cleanliness and organization of the histology laboratory * Act as the liaison for MSDI, Clean Harbors, Ecocyle and other necessary vendors Position Requirements Education and experience * Have a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience. * Have a minimum of 3 years direct supervisory/managerial experience. * Certified Histology Technician HT or HTL(ASCP). * Associates or B.S./B.A. in related scientific field from an accredited college/university. * Required experience must also reflect the Skills and Responsibilities outlined below. Skills and abilities * Leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills * An attitude for quality, an eye for detail, the ability to read and follow written instructions, and work independently * Ability to manage coworkers of varying technical backgrounds or coordinate their efforts to achieve corporate and departmental objectives * Conduct and assign projects as needed for technical advances or improvements in operations, and see to completion * Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to draft technical reports and other forms of written communications * Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with team members, pathologists and other Inotiv staff members * General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn new laboratory software Performance requirements General * Demonstrate an understanding of SOPs, this job description and general facility operations * Proficiency Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and company-specific software * Ensure all process training is documented, and training files are kept current * Maintain organized and confidential study files and documentation * Operation efficiently within Standard Operating Procedures and safety requirements Physical Activity * Moderate physical activity. This position will require frequent walking, sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, carrying, heavy lifting (max. 50lbs), reaching while standing, gripping and twisting hand movements, finger control and other general repetitive motions (for more than four [4] hours per day) * Able to wear latex or nitrile gloves, dust mask or respirator and safety glasses as required * Able to handle chemicals and hazardous materials according to local and company rules and regulations * Ability to read and understand applicable materials * Manual dexterity to operate assigned laboratory equipment and computers * Able to troubleshoot equipment errors and instrument specifications Working Conditions * Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work or laboratory environment * Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions and may include use of protective equipment * The noise level is usually moderate * This position will frequently be involved with sharp, solvents, irritants, acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals, flammable materials and bio-hazards. #LI-OF1 *This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.
