Tampa Microwave is a leading manufacturer and supplier of Manpack & Fly Away satellite terminals designed and built for the expeditionary user community to guarantee communications connectivity in the most austere environments. Tampa Microwave primarily serves Federal and Department of Defense markets.

We are seeking an Associate Engineering Director to join our team at Clearwater, FL location. This position will report to the Senior Director of Engineering.

The ideal candidate will focus on advancing multi-orbit SATCOM systems, dedicated to developing cutting-edge, first-class SATCOM solutions that meet the stringent requirements of the Department of Defense across all military branches. The role involves contributing to an innovative portfolio of SATCOM designs, including Parabola Antennas, RF components, ESA, modem integration, and mechanically steered positioners.

Responsibilities:

  • Closely collaborate with TM leadership and Engineering Teams to help define and implement strategies to identify leads and source opportunities within TM areas of interest.
  • Sourcing new opportunities that are consistent with the company's engineering and business objectives.
  • Leading critical engineering projects and evaluations through cross-functional due diligence reviews, with a focus on system requirements.
  • Analyze and manage market intelligence and industry trends to assess the competitive landscape, supporting strategic evaluations of potential technology partnerships and pipeline opportunities.
  • Driving decision-making presentations and recommendations to senior management.
  • Be part of a multi-functional team that develops and executes strategies and partnerships.
  • Oversee the integration and development within the engineering department.

Emphasis:

  • Oversee and direct R&D initiatives related to next-generation ESA terminals, such as active/passive phased arrays, beam steering techniques, etc.
  • Develop and drive a strategic technology roadmap for ESA terminals identifying key innovations, trends, and product life cycles in satellite communications.
  • Promote and drive innovation in ESA Terminals based on RFIC technologies, exploring new architectures, materials, and manufacturing processes to maintain competitive advantage in the SATCOM sector.
  • Ensure seamless integration of ESA panels and RFICs with satellite payloads, ground stations, and communication networks, with an emphasis on scalability, interoperability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Work closely with key customers to identify specific SATCOM needs related to ESA panels and RFICs, providing tailored solutions that align with commercial and military SATCOM objectives.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Master's Degree of Science degree or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics combined with MBA or equivalent level of business education or experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in military or commercial SATCOM.

Preferred but not required qualifications:

  • Ph.D.
  • Project Management Experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive business decisions and manage multiple projects effectively with a high degree of independence.
  • Self-starter with effective communication skills, collaborative mindset, and ability to think strategically and analytically.
  • Understanding of the SATCOM terminal technologies in both parabola and ESA systems design and development process and demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with R&D leadership.
  • Outstanding organization and time management ability. Exceptional Excel and PPT skills.
  • Capable of explaining scientific, engineering and business topics to executives and customers.
  • Fluent in the English language- written and oral.
  • Ability to comply with all Company guidelines, policies, procedures and embrace Company's Core Values.
