The full salary range for this position is $58,600 to $100,800/year.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential & Community Living (R&CL), the Coordinator for Academic Initiatives (CAI) is responsible for providing leadership and management to a variety of educational initiatives designed to enhance student learning and community engagement in university housing. These responsibilities include strategic oversight in the development of living-learning communities, theme-based housing, and the Faculty-in-Residence program; supporting the implementation of the established residential curriculum; ; and executing key assessment projects measuring student learning within campus housing. The Coordinator will be invested in the work of enhancing student learning in university housing with the intent of empowering students to fulfill the department's educational priority: "Residents are prepared to move the world." Partnering closely with the Associate Director, the Coordinator will provide strategic support, comprehensive training, and continuous support to professional staff and Resident Assistants, driving the development of innovative curriculum and impactful academic initiatives. These efforts will be focused on enhancing the student experience and fostering a deeper sense of belonging within the campus community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • At least 2 years of work experience in University Housing, or a combination of University Housing and Student Affairs.
  • Experience working with residentially based curriculums and academic initiatives, such as learning communities, and theme-based housing programs
  • Experience leading and modeling practices that foster equity and inclusion in a diverse community of residents, student staff, and professional staff.
  • Track record of infusing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion principles into daily work.
  • Demonstrated Skills in formal assessment techniques & the ability to train and oversee assessment practices by staff.
  • Commitment to creating communities where residents feel a deep sense of belonging.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout a large, multifunctional department.
  • Proven skill to take a concept from idea to action.
  • Ability to establish short and long-term goals and lead staff to achieve goals and fulfill expectations
  • Self-directed with strong time management and administrative skills.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices for positively engaging students within a residential curriculum model.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a large public institution.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

35% Residential Curriculum -

  • Coordinates the development, implementation, and assessment of a residential curriculum that supports student learning, development, and belonging, in collaboration with Residential & Community Living staff and campus partners.
  • Provide administrative support to the Associate Director by coordinating and scheduling meetings for the Curriculum Committee, drafting agendas, recording meeting notes, and ensuring timely follow-up on committee projects.
  • Assists in training and resourcing of Lead Staff, RAs, and other stakeholders to ensure educational initiatives are understood and implemented within a curricular approach.
  • Collaborates with other R&CL staff in writing Curriculum Plans, Facilitation Guides, and Assessment Rubrics related to curriculum and academic initiatives.
  • Stays current with residential curriculum trends and best practices; providing suggestions and strategies for continual improvement.
  • Actively engages in building key partnerships across campus (i.e. Student Conduct, Faculty, Student Affairs), seeking buy-in and contribution to the curricular approach in an effort to enhance student learning in campus housing.

50% Academic Initiatives in Housing

  • Responsible for oversight and development of programs within housing that collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus departments outside of housing. Current examples include Living Learning Communities, themed housing, and Faculty in Residence.
  • Researches and evaluates best practices in building stronger academic connections in a residential setting in order to make recommendations for implementation or program improvements.
  • Prepares professional and student staff on departmental efforts and their responsibilities regarding R&CL's Academic Initiatives programs.
  • Drives the collaborative efforts between faculty, R&CL staff and/or other critical campus staff in the planning and implementation of programs that fall under R&CL's Academic Initiatives.
  • Manages the budget and all expenditures related to Academic Initiatives programs operations, programs, and other department-wide academic initiatives.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises a student assistant dedicated to the Faculty in Residence Program.

10% Assessment

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assessment efforts for the residential curriculum and other academic initiatives for Residential & Community Living.
  • Prepares and shares assessment findings to inform policy and practice.
  • Coordinates and facilitates Assessment Showcases for professional staff to demonstrate assessment work related to residential curriculum and other academic initiatives.
  • Assists in other departmental wide assessment efforts.

5% Other Departmental Duties

  • Attends all regularly scheduled professional staff meetings including but not limited to unit meetings, weekly one on one's with professional staff, and Student Life Meetings.
  • Participates on department and/or campus-wide committees and activities as assigned. Provides support to the Assistant Directors, Associate Director, and Executive Director of Residential & Community Living for special projects and performs other duties as assigned based on the needs of the department.
  • Regularly participates in and attends ongoing professional development and training opportunities including workshops, conferences and webinars.
  • Responsible for updating R&CL websites devoted to R&CL's Residential Curriculum and Academic Initiatives efforts.
