DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health Sciences is a Vice Chancellor area within the University of California San Diego (UCSD). The Health Sciences academic enterprise is comprised of the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health. These three professional schools, with a combined operating budget of $2 billion, are responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research and clinical missions of UCS

The Vice Chancellor Health Sciences (VCHS) Academic Affairs Office provides oversight and assistance for academic appointments and advancement, faculty compensation, and interpretation of UC policies. We are committed to delivering expert, objective guidance to Health Sciences faculty, departments and schools in the advancement and retention of UC San Diego academic appointees.

Our quality standards of resourcefulness, receptiveness, accuracy, and timeliness are the operating principles for our staff who strive to provide an optimal customer service experience for our clients in support of the Health Sciences of mission groundbreaking research, inspired teaching, and outstanding clinical care.

Under general supervision, the incumbent will support administrative projects as required by leadership, and also maintain a portfolio of Academic Affairs actions, which fall under the purview of the VCHS Academic Affairs office. Will consult/contribute to the development and maintenance of academic affairs process and procedures. Provide recommendations, alternatives, and solutions for various academic affairs issues. Identify process and system efficiency opportunities, and contribute to system testing when needed. Will provide updates to Academic Affairs website, as needed. Provide training as needed to department and ARC staff. Cross-train and serve as back-up to other VCHS AA Analysts as needed.

While performing their duties, the incumbent must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in a rapidly changing, time-pressured environment. This requires the incumbent to use discretion and have an understanding of sensitive issues, independent judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to be flexible as demands and priorities change. This position requires a creative, organized, and solution-oriented individual who enjoys learning and contributing to a highly productive team in a dynamic work environment.

Applies professional UC Academic HR concepts, organization and / or system wide policies, and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of academic human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.

  • Knowledge of organization, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies.

  • Knowledge of human resources management systems and other related business software programs and systems. Preferred system knowledge: ServiceNow, UCPath, Interfolio, Kuali.

  • Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served.

  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to Chairs / unit management.

  • Demonstrated organization, problem solving, and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of and experience navigating the Health Sciences Compensation Plan (HSCP), General Campus Compensation Plan (GCCP), Collective Bargaining Agreements, and Academic HR policies.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing to work occasional overtime as needed for deadlines.

  • Requires flexibility in work schedule to meet demanding and changing workload, in order to complete urgent and complex academic reviews in a timely manner.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
