Mgr. Specialty Servicing Ops -- Asset Based Lending/Construction
Directly oversees the management of multiple specialty lending lines of business, namely Asset Based Lending and Construction Administration. Operational responsibilities cover these loan types across Comerica's entire lending footprint. This specialty lending servicing function is responsible for a set of highly complex operational activities that occur throughout the day and after hours, including ensuring all associated critical service level targets are met which requires comprehensive planning and periodic execution of contingency processes. Provides direct input to financial plan and performance for the function, works independently on highly complex incidents/issues, and leads medium to large size projects to drive improvements in business processes leading to meaningful efficiencies or enhanced customer experience. This position includes frequent contact with lending units, credit and operational risk teams, and customers on reporting requirements, exceptions and the enforcement of credit policies. Because these functions include oversight of activities that directly impact and determine a borrower's loan availability, precision and timeliness are essential. The role also requires developing a team that not only exhibits operational excellence but possesses appropriate professional and customer service skills that allow them to interact directly with sophisticated corporate clients.
Position Responsibilities:
Operations/Production Management
- Manage and oversee activities to ensure consistent delivery of competitive, high-level quality specialty servicing to support Comerica's commercial activities. This includes developing reliable processes for these nuanced functions that not only meet industry expected service levels but align with Comerica's customer delivery standards for these targeted portfolios.
- Lead efforts to efficiently deliver operational services in a manner that ensures quality processing.
- Partner with clients and customers, both internal and external to the bank to evaluate potential improvements or resolve issues.
- Manage key operational metrics, particularly in the areas of customer impact, quality, timeliness, productivity, and overall efficiency.
Operations Strategy
- Benchmark performance against peers to identify opportunities to improve service effectiveness and efficiency.
- Stay abreast of industry and competitor trends and determine their impact on Comerica.
- Interpret and develop policies and procedures for meeting compliance, risk management, and quality standards.
Project Management
- Champion technology and business process initiatives that provide standardized and cost-effective services as well as reliable processes to manage complex loan servicing needs.
- Continually drive efforts to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Lead effective root cause analysis as well as strategies to recover.
- Participate in projects originating in other business units but may impact the process and procedures of the Specialty Loan Servicing group.
Financial & Risk Management
- Monitor financials of the department with attention to the details of planning and budgets while exhibiting a strict cost discipline.
- Review volume to cost metrics to ensure ongoing competitive levels and alignment with expectations.
- Create and monitor risk management practices that ensure an effective internal control environment as well as compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Analyze and interpret new or changing regulations and develop plans to implement within operations.
- Knowledgeable on disaster recovery and business continuity planning and responses.
Talent Management
- Select, motivate, and retain high performing talent, cultivating a spirit of teamwork with shared goals and objectives.
- Develop and clearly articulate distinctive strategies to position LTS as a competitive advantage to enable Comerica to reach its revenue growth goals.
- Coordinate with HR and peer operations managers to enhance corporate practices and programs to continuously improve operations management developmental curriculum.
- Provide strategic direction to ensure instructionally sound training programs are delivered to improve operational and targeted technical capabilities that ensure team members are skilled for the future.
- Develop plans to reduce key person dependencies, ensure succession and knowledge transfer plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or 4 years of relevant experience Business, Accounting, Finance or other related degree type
- 8 years of Banking or financial service environment experience
- 5 years of Commercial loan experience
- 5 years of analysis experience
- 4 years of experience with loan accounting system (AFS) and DEALS
Work Best Category: Category C - Days in the office will either be designated days or will vary week to week from 2-5 days
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday

For candidates hired in the state of California, the expected salary/On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for the role is currently:
- California - $126,250 - $233,750 Annually
