In this role at Galls, you will be hands-on altering and embellishing our nation's Public Safety professionals' uniforms and equipment. You will ensure detailed measurements, fittings, patch work and logos, emblem placement, and so much more, so that they can wear that uniform proudly. At Galls, we are P.R.O.U.D. to Serve, and it all starts on our Production and Value-Added Service Team. WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Read and understand work instruction document (WID) and ensure WID matches garment and identified "Value Added Service" (VAS) to be applied. Must also be able to follow style and color guidelines to create standard garments.
- Ability and willingness to cross-train within the operation to provide flexibility.
- Ensures housekeeping is performed daily and the department is clean and organized
- Troubleshoots issues and implements efficient and effective resolution
Production:
- Take necessary measurements and mark garments for alterations with ability to solve individual sizing issues
- Perform uniform sewing, alterations and embellishments with accuracy and efficiency to include taking up stride, lengthening/shortening tails on shirts, tapering shirts, adjusting waists, hemming trousers, mending tears, replacing zippers, applying patches, striping and name strips.
- Operate industrial sewing machine
- Apply safety precautions and standard operating procedures
Embroidery:
- Ability to complete garment preparation: selecting size/color of thread; placing spools of thread on spindles; inserting bobbins and threading ends through machine guides and components; measure and mark for center-point placement; turning setscrews to regulate machine settings according to garment styles and equipment performance
- Ability to work with image files and to learn machine software - will train.
- Finishing Work: remove garment holding devices on completed work, Examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to all quality standards and/or WID instructions.
- Repair defective embroidery by identifying errors and re-running or adding missing stitches and trimming excess backing and thread from the finished product.
- Able to utilize embroidery hoops to hold fabric taut and place on machine for embroidery.
- Monitor machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, thread breaks or machine malfunctions. Trouble-shoot small machine problems and performs routine maintenance tasks, ie., replacing needles, cleaning/oiling equipment.
Heat Press: (as needed)
- Operate heat press machinery to transfer designs, artwork, or logos onto a variety of textiles, apparel, and other materials - training provided
- Set and adjust machine temperature, pressure, and timing for optimal transfer quality.
- Inspect garments or materials before and after press to ensure accurate alignment and transfer quality.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Previous experience in Alterations and Embroidery preferred. Galls will train!
- Well-versed on industrial Sewing machines preferred. Galls will train!
- Ability to effectively read/receive work instructions in English
- Extremely detail-oriented and quality-focused - you're not happy with mistakes
- Solid communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, bend, stretch, twist, and lift, with or without reasonable accommodation
