Creighton University in Omaha, NE is seeking to hire a full time Metadata & Digital Initiatives Librarian for the School of Law.

Leads planning, evaluation, and implementation of metadata and cataloging policies, standards, procedures, and workflows, as well as representing the library in implementing Creighton-wide cataloging policies and procedures related to the shared Ex Libris Alma/Primo library system. Responsible for the continued development, maintenance, and promotion of the School of Law Archives and the Law Library's digital collections in the Creighton Digital Repository. Provides general legal reference and research services to students, faculty, and other patrons. Supervises the Metadata Library Specialist and reports to the Law Library Director as a member of the Law Library Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities



  • Leadership & Strategy: Participates in Law Library Leadership Team decision-making regarding the management and strategic direction of the Law Library. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. Participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Metadata & Cataloging: Develops policy and planning regarding the creation of metadata for all library materials in all formats according to accepted rules and standard procedures to ensure discovery and access of physical and digital resources. Performs original cataloging and complex metadata creation of library materials in all formats to facilitate their identification, access, and use. Creates and submits name authority records to the Library of Congress authority file and performs needed quality control and authority work in the Ex Libris Alma/Primo library system and the Creighton Digital Repository. Maintains current knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in metadata creation and digital collection management.
  • Digital Collections & Archives: Manages and directs activities related to the Creighton School of Law Archives. Develops, manages, and promotes School of Law and Law Library digital collections in the Creighton Digital Repository. Plans and coordinates digitization projects to ensure their successful completion.
  • Public Services: Provides general legal reference and research services to students, faculty, and other patrons. Participates in class and library presentations, library tours, and preparation and revision of LibGuides and research aids.
  • Supervision: Supervises, trains, and evaluates library specialist(s).

Qualifications



  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school or program.
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible library experience, including a minimum of 2 years with an integrated library system.
  • Demonstrated experience with original cataloging, batch editing and loading MARC records, and authority control/identity management practices.
  • Experience with Ex Libris Alma strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with cataloging tools (e.g., RDA Toolkit, Classification Web) and experience using OCLC Connexion or WorldShare Record Manager.
  • Proficiency with data manipulation tools (e.g., MarcEdit, OpenRefine, MS Excel).
  • Familiarity with knowledge bases for managing electronic resources (e.g., Alma Community Zone, WorldShare Collection Manager).
  • Knowledge of Linked Data (e.g., BIBFRAME) and other emerging cataloging standards.
  • Experience with digital repository systems/software (e.g., DSpace, Digital Commons).
  • Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office 365.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Digital Archives Specialist certificate.
  • Experience working strategically across departmental lines.
