Position Summary The Business Development Manager will support the organization in achieving strategic growth and profit objectives. This role focuses on Capture Management and Proposal Development, positioning the company for large and mid-sized strategic pursuits within the defense sector. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing specific pursuit strategies to win Trideum new business pursuits. These strategies include teaming, solution (technical, management, and cost) development, win strategy, value proposition and win theme development, competitive analysis, price to win analysis, proposal staffing/development, proposal writing, and color reviews. The Business Development Manager leads the development, implementation, and successful execution of these winning capture strategies, supporting the business case, and developing bid and proposal budgets. The Business Development Manager is responsible for the management of capture and proposal activities including timely and substantive gate reviews, in-process updates, process compliance and transition to the program execution team. In addition, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for: customer focused marketing to develop solutions to customer problems, and win/loss analysis, lessons learned and related process improvements. The position requires a close working relationship with counterparts in Trideum Sectors, as well as other parts of Trideum in a "One Company" environment. In addition, the Business Development Manager will be expected to build and maintain a close working relationship with Trideum leadership and customers. The successful candidate will be experienced and understands Business Development, Capture and Proposal development processes. Specific experience leading teams to capture critical and strategic competitive pursuits is highly desirable. The Business Development Manager will work at our headquarters office in our Huntsville, AL. The person in this role will be responsible for supporting corporate business development. What You'll Do Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Independently manage multiple small to mid-sized captures ($10M-$50M) and support large strategic pursuits ($50M+)
- Lead strategic capture and pursuit planning, ensuring alignment with Trideum's corporate vision and growth goals
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities within target defense markets
- Build and maintain strong relationships with DoD acquisition officials and key decision-makers in Huntsville, AL, particularly within Redstone Arsenal, AMRDEC, PEO Aviation, PEO Missiles & Space, MDA, SMDC, and Army Futures Command
- Collaborate with leadership to identify and pursue strategic opportunities that align with business unit goals and objectives
- Conduct in-depth research for future opportunities that align with the company's strategic vision, enter them into the company's CRM, and progress them forward via capture actions/tasks
- Define target markets, identify, and qualify new business opportunities within those markets
- Lead the development and management of strategic pursuit plans
- Contribute to proposal preparation and submittal and perform post-award stewardship to ensure a successful transition to operations for execution
- Work collaboratively with Trideum's technical, operational, and leadership teams to ensure capture success
- Perform various duties throughout the business development lifecycle, including Capture Manager, Proposal Manager, writer, Book Boss, and/or color reviewer
- Apply the company's Business Development process
- Develop value propositions that enhance the company's competitive position and achieve client objectives
- Contribute to the development of written and graphical marketing and proposal material
- Contribute to the development of functional, regional, or global business development strategies
- Evaluate key personnel for contract/task bids/proposals, when appropriate
- Generate and foster positive client relationships
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Recommend strategic hires, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures when appropriate in support of business development strategies
Travel:
- Up to 50%, including conferences, corporate meetings, and customer engagements
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, or a related field required. Equivalent industry experience (10+ years in BD, Capture, or Proposal Management) may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Minimum of 8 years of business development experience in defense contracting, with a proven track record of leading and winning DoD competitive procurements of $50M+
- Established relationships with DoD acquisition officials, particularly within Redstone Arsenal, AMRDEC, PEO Aviation, PEO Missiles & Space, MDA, SMDC, and Army Futures Command
- Strong knowledge of DoD procurement processes, including FAR-based contracts, IDIQs, OTAs, and SBIR/STTR programs
- Ability to independently execute capture efforts, with minimal oversight, from lead identification through proposal submission.
- Experience authoring and reviewing proposal content, particularly technical, management, and cost volumes
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM tools for pipeline management and opportunity tracking
- Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing capture teams, proposal teams, and BD strategies
- Advanced understanding of the government procurement, fiscal, and regulatory environment
- The ability to operate independently but still retain an enterprise focus and develop an environment of collaboration
- Demonstrated networking capabilities among various communities, e.g. acquisition officials/leads in the Department of Defense and other government agencies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop high-quality presentations, briefings, and proposal content
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Clearance preferred
- Master's degree in business, Engineering, or related field (or 10+ years of equivalent industry experience in BD, Capture, or Proposal Management)
- Possess an active current pipeline of contacts to network current and future opportunities
- Experience within Navy, NASA, Air Force, SOCOM, or other DoD/Federal Civilian organizations
