Navigator Director- Community Outreach

Position Summary:

The Y of Greater Houston was selected to provide community navigation services as part of the United Way of Greater Houston's Second Century Vision. The Navigator Director is responsible for the successful implementation and execution of connecting clients and families with resources in achieving long-term stability. This role involves managing day-to-day client intake, developing and monitoring client goals, tracking and reporting information through the United Way Navigator portal, and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures. The Navigator Director will monitor all supporting activities necessary to successfully assist ALICE (Asset, Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) community members in the Far Southeast Harris County to achieve their resiliency goals. With a focus on excellence, the Navigator Director represents the YMCA with enthusiasm and commitment, driving community impact through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Navigator Director will primarily support the clients of community organizations external to the Y of Greater Houston.

Essential Functions:


  1. Supports clients to access, apply for, and obtain services, and programs to ensure successful access and enrollment.
  2. Partner and collaborate with area non-profits, governmental entities, and other regional and national stakeholders.
  3. Represent the United Way at meetings and events to foster networking, build partnership, collaboration, and referrals.
  4. Advocate for refugees, immigrants, underserved residents, and ALICE community members to have equity of access to services.
  5. Serve as the system coordinator and resilience-building expert.
  6. Compile and submit reports as required.
  7. Ensure compliance with United Way Second Century Vision expectations for Navigation services.
  8. Maintain accurate, standardized client records in accordance with guidelines and participate in the peer review process.
  9. Conducts client follow-up and accountability calls to ensure tasks are completed.
  10. Support clients in navigating to other services through warm, ongoing referrals to providers and ensure follow-up as necessary.
  11. Represent the Y at community events functions as required.
  12. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  13. Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  14. Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples include but are not limited to UKG Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
  15. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements:


  • 3-5 years previous experience in case management and/or family stability initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent (preferred)
  • Knowledge of case management with a focus family stability models and/or policies and procedures
  • At least 21 years of
  • Previous experience with diverse
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Bilingual fluency required (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Available for training on occasional weekends and after hours.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on- one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
