The Position

About Us: At the Port of Portland, we embrace innovation and are at the forefront of our industry. You will play an important role in our accounting department as support to our internal customers, and to ensure the accuracy of our financials and interfaced data between multiple systems.

Your Role: We are seeking an individual to record daily cash transactions and adjustments, process system interfaces, maintain reports, process journal entries, and reconcile accounts. You will also provide critical support for the annual financial audit, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial activities.

Essential Job Duties

  • Post daily cash deposits and reconcile cash to bank deposits.

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including revenue accruals, accounts payable accruals, JD Edwards general ledger account analyses and other miscellaneous journal entries as needed.

  • Participate in JD Edwards upgrades as needed.

  • Serve as Module Administrator of JDE Accounts Receivable, including user manual maintenance, system balancing, adjustments, accruals, and overall Accounts Receivable department support.

  • Other daily activities include posting of Accounts Receivable invoice batches and ad hoc research.

  • Perform daily and ad hoc accounts payable, encumbrance, and inventory interfaces between Avantis and JDE

  • Assist with annual audit preparations and schedules.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required.
  • Two (2) years related accounting experience including use of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Demonstrated Skills & Abilities
  • Basic accounting principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Input and retrieve data.

  • Create and use spreadsheets for data analysis and reporting.

  • Meet deadlines on a daily and monthly basis.

  • Organize workload to meet changing priorities and deadlines.

Compensation

Our organization adheres to established salary ranges for each position to ensure equitable pay practices. However, final offers are determined based on various factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and considerations of internal pay equity


Supplemental and Selection Information

SELECTION PROCESS (tentative schedule):

  1. A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources the week of March 3, 2025.
  2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials.
  3. Our goal is to schedule a virtual first round of interviews with candidates who successfully passed the SME evaluation as soon as possible.
