Purpose of Position
The Manager of Marketing and Communications at EngageKY is the driving force behind strategically elevating the organization's reputation through powerful storytelling that resonates with stakeholders in the Commonwealth and beyond. This crucial position entails creating and sharing captivating stories that highlight the achievements of partner institutions (students, faculty, and staff), AmeriCorps members and alumni and AmeriCorps host sites. By doing so, we reinforce our role as a frontrunner in promoting civic engagement and facilitating access to higher education and career opportunities, statewide, regionally, and nationally.
Working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and leadership team, this position serves as a strategist and spearheads the development of persuasive solicitation and stewardship messaging, ensuring a unified brand voice and consistent messaging across diverse communication channels, including social media and the EngageKY website. The Manager of MarCom provides leadership in managing external public and media relations, and serves as the primary communication liaison between the organization and its stakeholders, both internally and externally, to effectively convey our narrative.
Leading a team of professional and student staff, the Manager orchestrates the creation of captivating content while providing editorial guidance to maintain the highest standards of communication excellence. As an integral member of the leadership team, this position integrates communication strategies seamlessly into the organization's overarching operations and programs, thereby amplifying our impact and reach.
This role demands a proactive approach to enhancing the organization's visibility and fostering robust stakeholder engagement through dynamic online interactions. Additionally, the Manager of MarCom is the driving force behind crafting compelling materials that not only promote but also capture the essence of key events to ignite excitement, foster engagement, and increase awareness and support of our programs and activities.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop Comprehensive Marketing and Communications Strategy for EngageKY

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan for the entire organization.
  • Create segmented messaging to effectively engage varied audiences, including stakeholders, partners, and the community.
  • Promote EngageKY's programs, initiatives, and successes through strategic communications.
  • Craft and share compelling stories that highlight the achievements of partner institutions, AmeriCorps members, host sites, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all communication efforts align with EngageKY's mission and strategic goals, resonating with regional and national audiences.


Oversee Digital Strategy

  • Manage social media channels and the EngageKY website.
  • Develop processes for assessing, tracking, and reporting engagement metrics.
  • Measure program participation and effectiveness through web analytics.
  • Serve as the resident web editor.
  • Act as the liaison between EngageKY and NKU's Office of Marketing and Communications.

Write Press Announcements and Key Publications

  • Write and distribute press releases (or other methods of news distribution) to media outlets.
  • Assist in the creation of press packets.
  • Lead the development of the EngageKY annual report.
  • Coordinate with external partners to magnify the organization's impact and messaging.
  • Manage the publication of other key documents and communications.

Provide Editorial Direction on Marketing Materials

  • Lead the creation of marketing materials for internal and external stakeholders, including templates for PowerPoint presentations, letterhead, and other documents used by staff.
  • Develop flyers, fact sheets, program infographics, and newsletters.
  • Copy edit materials for punctuation and grammar.
  • Ensure consistent look, voice, and tone throughout all communications.

Manage Digital Media Assistant and Student Staff

  • Supervise the digital media assistant and student staff, including completing annual performance evaluations.
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure quality content creation.
  • Foster a collaborative and creative working environment.

Contribute to a Regional and National Message

  • Participate in meetings and initiatives with regional and national networks such as IKONC and the Partnership Alliance.
  • Work collaboratively with these networks to craft materials, social media, and messages that promote and support the collective work being done.
  • Take the lead on collaborative issues that promotes EngageKY work.

EngageKY Activities

  • Participate in EngageKY staff meetings, retreats, events, and GERO meetings.
  • Uphold EngageKY values in all work tasks and activities.
  • Serve as a member of the EngageKY Leadership Team.

Qualifications

  • Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Stream applications.

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of integrated communication strategies (print, digital, social media).

  • Highly creative and an exceptional storyteller.

  • Demonstrated ability to create materials including graphic design tasks.

  • Knowledge of web analytics to track the success of social media, website, and digital publications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling the ability to influence, build trust, and foster mutual respect with key stakeholders.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects, handle numerous tasks, and meet fast-paced deadlines.
