Pharmacy Technician Specialty

Job Overview:

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist the Specialty Pharmacy Technician will participate in the advanced preparation of hazardous/cytotoxic medications and/or be actively involved in the medication reconciliation process

Qualifications:

Required:

• Must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent.

• Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

• Must be PTCB certified or receive certification within 1 year of hire. Required to maintain PTCB certification.

• Must be registered with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.

Experience:

Prior experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.

Essential Functions:

• This position may involve working with hazardous drugs in a pharmacy setting,

• Hazardous drugs may cause health issues such as the following: rashes, infertility, miscarriage, birth defects, and possibly cancer,

• Accidental exposure to some of these drugs may additionally cause irritation or damage to skin, eyes, or other exposed body parts,

• The facility will follow reasonable policies and procedures in order to minimize exposure to these drugs in accordance with commonly available information and guidance from such entities as the FDA and OSHA,

• The facility will also provide safety measures such as spill kits and eye wash stations to help limit my exposure to, or limit the results of, accidental exposure to such drugs,

• All staff are trained on the handling of hazardous drugs during orientation and will be re-trained at least annually,

Essential functions require the following as well as pressure to complete workload demands combined with the need to assure accuracy in every situation may create periods of stress:

• Sitting, walking and standing

• Lift, carry, push, pull 25 - 50 lbs.

• Bend/Stoop/Kneel

• Balancing/Twisting/Turning

• Manual dexterity/wrist hand repetitions: Good manual and finger dexterity is needed. Good manual and finger dexterity is also needed for up to 90% of working time as much time may be spent using automated technology and computers.

• Vision/hearing/speaking: Must have good visual acuity and depth perception to operate the computer system; speaking and hearing are essential to the communication needs of the position.
