Scope of Work: The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) is a six-week program that prepares newly arrived refugee youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 130 students from ages 5 - 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, social-emotional learning, physical education, and life skills classes. Field trips are held on Fridays. The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy is seeking a Physical Education Teacher who will create daily physical education / movement lessons for Upper School students (Grades 6-12). The Physical Education Teachers will contribute to the program's goals of fostering students' social-emotional development and building a strong sense of community among the students and staff. The Physical Education Teacher will instruct up to 6 lessons each week. The Physical Education classes will be held between 12:00 pm and 2:40 pm, Monday - Thursday. The Physical Education Teacher will also help facilitate after-school classes from 3:00 pm - 5:15 pm, Monday - Thursday. Position term:June 16 - August 15, 2025 Hours: Pre-program Planning: Between June 16 and July 1 - Up to 10 hours of lesson planning and instructional planning with Dean of Instruction and up to 5 hours of asynchronous foundational online training modules to be completed independently ahead of synchronous staff training dates In-person Training: July 1-3, 2025: Up to 24 hours of in-person training Main Program: July 7, 2025 - August 15, 2025: up to 2.5 hours of instruction, supervision with dismissals, and running 1.5 hours of afterschool programs for a total of 5.25 hours per day, Monday - Thursday. Working Environment:NYSA takes place in a centrally located school (TBD) in New York City. All applicants must be willing to relocate to the New York City area for the entirety of the Academy. Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.
