Overview

The recently-announced New Technologies and Materials Development team within the Submarine Materials Engineering directorate is seeking four high performing individuals to fill Program Representative positions for additive manufacturing, welding, robotics, and non-destructive testing. The successful candidates will be responsible for overseeing the rapid identification, development, implementation and sustainment of new, emerging, high visibility technologies in their respective area to accelerate construction, improve quality, and reduce cost to all submarine programs at Electric Boat. They will also collaborate with subject matter experts in the directorate and coordinate with the key stakeholders. Additionally, these areas of technology deployment have had high degrees of integration with Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), and multiple suppliers through the Maritime Industrial Base (MIB) program office.

Anticipated responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

    Obtaining funding for tasking/projects, which includes development of business cases
  • Assuring progress is on-track for the various tasking, particularly within the directorate, including development and publishing of metrics and assessing financial performance, and prioritization of tasking
  • Developing and/or leading the development of technical and non-technical submittals to NAVSEA such as implementation plans, presentations, formal correspondence using SME input
  • Coordination of weekly status meetings, working level discussion, stakeholder updates, and staying keyed-in to details of each assigned project; this information will feed to the senior and executive level teams at EB and NAVSEA
  • Developing a communication strategy around these projects in concert with Shipyard 4.0, Program Office, and the communications team to demonstrate Electric Boat's commitment and capability to continuously improved
  • Driving progress on tasking with contributors that are not direct reports such as NAVSEA and suppliers

The successful candidates will have strong communication, leadership, and organization skills. They must be willing to understand and collaborate with various areas across the company including contracts, purchasing, and programmatic aspects. Moreover, they must be comfortable with presenting technical and non-technical information to EB and NAVSEA senior leadership.

Preference for which of the areas (additive manufacturing, welding, robotics, or NDT) the candidate wishes to work with will be discussed at the interview. This position may require occasional travel to vendors and/or conventions as appropriate.



Qualifications

Required:

  • 2 years-experience at Electric Boat in related field (programs, finance, planning, engineering) or 2 years' experience in project/program management
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering (or a related technical field) Finance, or Business
  • Knowledge of management tools (i.e., manpower planning, EVMS) is desired
  • Demonstrated instances of challenging the status quo to develop and lead innovative solutions to complex problems


Skills

  • Strong leadership and project management abilities
  • Ability to self-govern task/time management and operate with a professional degree of autonomy on large scale tasking with limited oversight and/or management guidance
  • Must be highly motivated, self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) in order to effectively interface with internal and external stakeholders
  • Candidate must have the ability to function independently and work in a multi-discipline team environment.
  • Candidates need to be able to communicate verbally and in writing to all levels of management
