Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Quality Director in Charlotte, NC. This position will be hybrid. In this role lead Albemarle's Quality team providing global inspection technical support for Capital Projects along with its Manufacturing & R&D facilities. The candidate is accountable for developing, implementing, and providing specialized support to establish and maintain a Quality Management System ensuring that the organization's project and maintenance teams maintain compliance with all Albemarle specifications, standards, and drawings as well as Industry codes & standards, and site-specific jurisdictional requirements.

What you will do

Responsibilities:

  • Leads in HSSE and strives to achieve zero recordables.
  • Participates in HSSE reviews, permit audits, and housekeeping inspections.
  • Drives Albemarle's safety focus striving for a safe shop and site inspection culture.
  • Displays and champions the Albemarle Core Values on the project and maintenance team.
  • Consult extensively with internal and external project and maintenance team members, with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretation and recommendation.
  • Champions inspection best practices as it pertains to quality related activities.
  • Develops and maintains Corporate and Site Inspection forms and standard operating procedures.
  • Develops Risk Based Inspection methodologies for the corporation and champion its global implementation.
  • Develops QA/QC process to ensure equipment procured meets technical requirements.
  • Conducts fabrication shop audits and certify them for inclusion to the Approved Manufacturers List.
  • Conducts annual audits at each production facility to include reviews of QC manuals, Inspection specific SOP's, jurisdictional compliance including the National Board Code Repair Program, and verifying that RAGAGEP's are incorporated.
  • Leads the development of a global network of competent and experienced SQS for Inspection Test Plan (ITP) adherence and surveillance requirements.
  • Manages Source Quality Surveillance (SQS) services to support shop/office inspection activities.
  • Effectively advises the capital project management teams on applicable technology and innovation in the field of quality management.
  • Implements latest nondestructive testing techniques as well as technologies applicable to inspection of piping and equipment.
  • Provides direct and indirect quality technical support resources (coverage, planning, evaluation) to sites for projects, turnarounds, and outages.
  • Oversees supplier/vendor quality programs and their implementation in relation to meet the equipment purchase order, project objectives & requirements, and Albemarle requirements.
  • Collaborates with project managers and engineers across all disciplines to ensure proper quality protocols are established and monitored throughout the project stages with the proper quality resource and budget.
  • Provides technical support to Project and Maintenance Engineers regarding selection of vendors for fabrication of new equipment and/or the repair/modification of existing equipment.
  • Travels (50%) to Manufacturing Sites, Engineering/Design Firms, and Supplier/Vendor Shops.

Accountabilities:

  • Requires suppliers/vendors to incorporate ITP requirements into a project schedule to appropriately monitor the progress of equipment fabrication.
  • Addresses and resolves Nonconformance reports (NCRs) prior to owner acceptance.
  • Supports inspection to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) generating inspection reports to document the test results.
  • Ensures criticality rating for engineered equipment are determined.
  • Establishes Equipment Inspection Plans for critical equipment.
  • Addresses and resolves Inspection reports and concerns identified with project managers and site maintenance team.
  • Provides quality technical support for Request for Quotation (RFQ) and Purchase Orders to ensure the selection process of supplier/vendors identified are qualified to bid, Quality Inspection Plan (QIP) represents all the requirements detailed on the Equipment Data Sheet, and the assigned level of source inspection meets the equipment criticality ranking.
  • Ensures all quality records are completed and transmitted in accordance with the project QA specifications.
  • Incorporates lessons learned from previous capital projects into the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.

What you bring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of verifiable experience of QA/QC processes in a petrochemical or similar industrial environment
  • Minimum of five (5) years working as a QA/QC lead in a petrochemical or industrial manufacturing environment with progressive demonstration of experience on executing QA/QC activities as a coordinator to include shop and field inspections
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with senior level leadership within an organization.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to inspire and drive results through teamwork with all levels of the organization.
  • Detail oriented with high standards for accuracy and completeness.
  • Proven ability in problem solving and multi-tasking.
  • Experience with major EPC(CM) contractors and owner project teams.
  • Knowledge of the latest applicable codes, regulations, and best practices related to fabrication and construction, including but not limited to: ISO, API, ASME, NBIC, AWS, NACE, NFPA, PIP, GB codes, and NEC
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Section IX on the review and approval of WPS, PQR, and WPQ's
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Section V on the review and acceptance of Non-Destructive Examinations to include VT, PT, UTT, PAUT, MT, and RT Interpretation
  • Experience in the review of Material Test Reports (MTRs) and verification of materials against the MTRs.
  • Experience working with engineered documents to include PFD's, P&ID's, Civil/Structural plans and details, Piping Isometrics, etc.
  • Experience in dimensional verification of fixed equipment as specified on the fabrication drawings.
  • Works effectively within a project stage-gate system environment including essential success factors for early phase and execution projects especially at it pertains to engineered equipment procurement and inspections.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ability to read, understand, and modify or develop Inspection and Test plans for multiple types of equipment.
  • Excellent computer skills - Microsoft SharePoint Online, Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), TEAMS,
  • Experience in the fabrication of reactive metals (Titanium and Zirconium) and refractory metals (Tantalum and Niobium) is highly desired.
  • Experience in the fabrication of nonmetallic materials of construction to include FRP, Dual Laminates and Lined Piping is highly desired.
  • Preferred experience and/or certification in the following:
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector
    • API 570 Piping Inspector
    • NACE CIP Level I Coatings Inspector
    • Positive Materials Identification
