About the Role:

At Guardant Health our mission is to conquer cancer with data; as such software sits at the core of everything we do. While we're best known for our molecular diagnostics, which unlock the genomic signatures of cancer, these tests are just the first step in the equation. Turning this genomic data into actionable insights shared with thousands of patients, physicians, and researchers in a scalable, reliable, and secure fashion is a software product challenge.

We are building a unique software stack to manage an ecosystem of microservices, RESTful APIs, and data integrations with internal and external systems to deliver useful and elegant user experiences in the extraordinarily complex oncology diagnostic and therapeutic landscape. We connect patients with clinical trials, help clinicians order our test and receive our clinical reports, and deliver valuable genomic datasets to researchers to help uncover important insights into treatment paradigms and drug discovery. Our technology stack reflects our views of using the best tools for the job, employing Java, Python, Ruby along with Kubernetes, Docker, Mulesoft, MySQL, MongoDB, high-performance computing clusters (HPC), and a variety of AWS services to analyze and disseminate vast volumes of genomic data.

The Software team is looking for an experienced and energetic software engineer to build and enhance laboratory workflows within Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and across other systems and services that interact with LIMS to facilitate lab operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with very interesting technologies and datasets (human genomics).

  • Have a holistic view of processes and systems involved in taking patient samples from order to result in a multi-product clinical laboratory.

  • Leverage off-the-shelf or existing functionality whenever possible so development resources can be focused on unmet needs.

  • Build and maintain an ecosystem of services and applications that provide unique value add.

  • Integrate into LIMS and other enterprise systems and services to create seamless business processes.

  • Analyze requirements, create software designs, vet them with the team and incorporate feedback prior to implementation.

  • Code for efficiency, reusability, scalability and all other -ilities by following existing frameworks and practices.

  • Develop and maintain automated tests for regular releases.

  • Provide second-tier production support.

Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of enterprise software development.

  • 1-3 years of experience developing production software in Java, Python, or a similar language.

  • 1-3 years of experience developing and consuming RESTFul APIs using RAML, Swagger / OpenAPI.

  • Hands-on experience with data modeling, developing schemas (relational databases, XML/JSON), data management and processing (relational and NoSQL data stores).

  • Understanding of laboratory operations, regulations and compliance in the healthcare industry is highly desired.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment leveraging an agile development framework.

  • Bachelor degree in software engineering, CS, or EE.

Additional Information

Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $82,240.00 to $111,020.00. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).

For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $102,800.00 to $138,780.00. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
