Entry to Mid-Level Safety Coordinator

S&ME is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time entry to mid-level Safety Coordinator to become part of our Heath, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team in one of our South Carolina offices (Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Spartanburg). What You Will Do:

As an entry- to mid-level Safety Coordinator, you will implement, evaluate, and sustain HSE improvement programs aimed at preventing occupational injuries and illnesses, minimizing environmental impacts, and mitigating operational hazards and risks across our locations. This role requires up to 50% travel and may support remote work as tasks permit.



  • Site Safety Inspections: Perform regular site safety inspections and prepare comprehensive reports conveying findings and providing sound guidance to resolve or mitigate encountered SH&E issues.
  • Field Personnel Engagement: Build trust and respect with field personnel to promote open communication and influence the adoption of new safety practices.
  • Employee Coaching: Coach employees on the use of safe work practices in compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as company programs.
  • Training and Meetings: Assist in the development and delivery of training presentations and facilitate meeting discussions on pertinent safety topics.
  • Incident Investigations: Facilitate incident and injury/illness investigations and write detailed findings reports.



To be a successful Safety Coordinator, you should be able to work independently, provide quick response support for unplanned events, and be knowledgeable in Behavior Based Safety (BBS) or Human and Organizational Performance (HOP). Additionally, you should maintain safe personal practices and a clean driving record and be capable of supporting project and safety teams within the organization.

Who You Are:



  • You have at least a year of hands-on experience in construction and environmental site safety
  • You have a working knowledge of OSHA and EPA with an emphasis in Construction or Environmental Remediation
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management/Insurance, or related field, a plus
  • You have OSHA 500 and First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certifications, a plus



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, as needed
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs,
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as needed
