The Opportunity: This position assists the Controller; Assistant VP of Tax, Payables, and Procurement; and Assistant Controller of Tax Compliance to ensure University compliance with state and federal regulations related to university tax compliance issues. This includes but is not limited to maintenance of subsidiary records and reconciliation of these records to the general ledger; processing of payments; maintenance of all necessary documents in an auditable format; training departmental personnel on required procedures; preparation of required tax forms and reports; and assistance in researching, interpreting, and applying all federal and state regulations. Responsibilities: State Transaction Tax Filings This position is required to monitor and remit Florida transaction taxes (sales tax, communications services tax, and tourist development tax) for the university, Research Foundation Florida sales tax, and Convocation Center Florida sales tax. This includes preparing all associated work papers for review, timely filing of the proper documents in the correct format with the appropriate taxing authority, remitting payment timely to the appropriate taxing authority, performing the required analyses to determine the appropriateness of the payments and withholding requirements, and interfacing with various taxing authorities to affect payments due. Reporting This position is required to prepare various tax filings. These include but are not limited to: federal and state unrelated business income tax, federal excise tax, and various federal and state information returns. This includes preparing all associated work papers for review, timely filing of the proper forms and statements in the correct format and sequence with the appropriate taxing authority, remitting payment timely to the appropriate taxing authority, performing the required analyses to determine the appropriateness of the payments and withholding requirements, and interfacing with various taxing authorities to affect payments due. Training/Guidance This position is responsible for training UCF accounting staff members on tax issues which may affect their departments and recommending business process changes, as needed. This includes assisting supervisors with responding to tax questions received via email and Workday Help Cases. Maintenance & Reconciliation of Records Responsible for preparing and maintaining various tax records. This includes but is not limited to, reconciling tax account balances; preparing tax journal entries and tax ad hoc bank transactions; and review of transactions requiring tax approval in Workday. Assist in Interpreting and Applying Federal and State Regulations and Statutes: This position shall make supervisors aware of any changes in federal and state regulations or statutes as they occur and the interpretation of these rules to assist in setting University policy on compliance and implementation. Process Improvement This position shall advise supervisors on process improvement recommendations including suggesting changes to Workday, reports, and other tax software systems that will increase efficiency or accuracy of tax filings.
