Summary:

The Director of Design is a talented visual artist who is responsible for leading the creation and production of marketing communications, sales, and other graphic design materials. This role functions as both an individual contributor and a leader, directing projects from concept to completion by working with segment marketers, vendors, and other associates. The Director of Design serves as the primary art/design lead for their geographic location, supervising direct reports, monitoring and guiding the implementation of branding requirements and standards, and ensuring the overall quality and innovation of visual materials. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Branding and Creative and will help set the course for new design strategy within their segment and across the enterprise at large.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Directs all aspects of graphic design development and production within their segment group and location

    • Actively monitors, implements, and guides the application of branding standards to all collateral

    • Serves as primary point of contact for design questions related to branding

    • Collaborates with the Senior Director of Branding and Creative to steer all branded efforts through internal corporate changes and changes in the healthcare marketplace

    • Supervises other designers within their segment group and location; inspires and motivates their design team to continually elevate its level of design, while ensuring continuous and superior design quality; ensures timely delivery of projects to all stakeholders

    • Brings design innovation to their team and the enterprise as a whole. Stays on top of current trends

    • Coordinates, designs, and produces marketing materials, tradeshow graphics, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, corporate reports, and other promotional communications

    • Provides files to printers, publishers and other outside contacts

    • Partners with marketing segment and other shared services teams; attends and adds value to marketing meetings

    • Facilitates communication among designers, marketers, and other groups within a matrixed organization

    • Establishes graphic standards for their segment group and/or for enterprise-level projects

    • Evaluates and approves proofs and other printing/press materials

    • Assists management with the development, implementation and modification of company procedures and policies as necessary

    • Makes recommendations for improved operations of workflow processes

    • Complies with company policies and procedures such as profiles, time sheets and working hours

    • Performs related duties as assigned

    Required Skills and Qualifications:

    • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in a design-related field, marketing communications, advertising, publishing, or other corporate environment required

    • Previous experience in advertising or marketing communications agency preferred but not required

    • Previous experience supervising other designers, both artistically and administratively

    • Completion of a four-year bachelor's degree in graphic arts preferred but not required

    • Deep digital experience (Web design, prototyping software, working with developers) preferred but not required

    • Superior hands-on design execution skills and sophisticated design taste

    • Excellent ideation and conceptual ability

    • Solid focus on internal and external stakeholders and customers; ability to seek out and find design solutions that satisfy or exceed customer needs

    • Complete expertise within the Adobe Creative Cloud and other design-related software

    • Proven leadership ability; able to manage personal workload as well as the productivity of direct reports

    • Solid project management skills; ability to multi-task; attention to detail

    • Able to champion an overall workflow process that benefits designers and increases project quality

    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

    • Ability to resolve quality issues and troubleshoot team dynamics efficiently and effectively

    • Willingness to be flexible; works beyond what is described in job description as necessary

    *This Salary Range reflects a National Average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado/California/Washington/New York/Hawaii/Vermont/Minnesota/Massachusetts/Illinois State-specific locations may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range, and 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
