Schmidt Construction part of the Levy Group of Companies is seeking a Superintendent for our Colorado Springs, CO location .
The Superintendent will organize and supervise paving, milling, and grading projects and coordinate activities of crews that are engaged in the construction of highways, roads, runways, parking lots and industrial projects. The Superintendent plans, coordinates, and supervises all site functions including scheduling, material control, trucking, equipment, subcontractors, and day-to-day direction of all field personnel in conjunction with the asphalt plants and laboratories.

Responsibilities
The Superintendent will:

  • Supervise and schedule on-site work crews, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Coordinate daily work activities, job site organization, analyzing specifications, blueprints, etc.
  • Coordinate trucks, material delivery, and traffic control
  • Coordinate with other departments, plants, garage, project management, labs, etc. to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, dispatch, and asphalt plant operations
  • Observe work operations to ensure that performance is productive, safe and of the highest quality
  • Comply, understand, and support safety initiatives to ensure a safe working environment
  • Review asphalt plant reports, foreman reports, job reports, etc.
  • Attend meetings as necessary with required personnel, including preconstruction and progress meetings
  • Assist estimating staff by providing feedback on job progress
  • Maintain CDOT certifications
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time and on budget
  • Review job specifications & visit jobsites in advance
  • Develop & implement a construction plan and sequence for each project
  • Determine equipment needs for each project
  • Manage and motivate field personnel
  • Manage and motivate subcontractors
  • Direct responsibility over the actions of the foremen and crews
  • Direct responsibility for project quality and completion
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of asphalt paving and related construction trades
  • Ability to read and understand complex project plans, specifications, phasing, and scope of work
  • Ability to prioritize, develop and maintain schedules
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Work efficiently and effectively with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors & customers
  • Proficient with equipment grade controls and automation
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Ability to analyze issues independently
  • Ability to supervise and manage workers
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Understanding of CDOT, OSHA, EPA and CDL laws and procedures
  • Valid driver's license
