Sony Semiconductors, a global leader in imaging sensors and advanced technology solutions, is seeking highly motivated research interns to join our Pentas team in San Jose. The Pentas team focuses on applied research in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence, contributing to cutting-edge projects that drive real-world innovations in imaging and sensing technologies.

About the Role

As a Research Intern, you will work closely with a team of researchers on applied research projects aimed at pushing the boundaries of AI and computer vision. You will have the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and see your work influence the next generation of Sony's imaging and sensing solutions.

This role is based out of San Jose, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and evaluate novel computer vision and deep learning methods and apply them to real-world products.

  • Conduct high-level and innovative research using advanced methods to solve practical problems and enable new products, communicate your findings to team members.

  • Research topics include synthetic data generation, controllability of generative models, style transfer, image harmonization and deep learning architectures

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a master/PhD degree in computer science or related field

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of machine learning, computer vision and state-of-the-art deep learning architectures

  • Strong computer science fundamentals, problem solving skills, and proficiency in programming (Python, C, C++) and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch

  • Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate effectively and communicate findings

Preferred Skills

  • Publishing record in peer-reviewed venues

  • Experience with distributed model training and knowledge of CUDA

  • Strong research or prototyping experience in relevant areas such as generative AI, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Computational Photography

The anticipated hourly wage for this position is between $29 to $41. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base wage offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
