Overview

R&P Technologies is looking for Master technical Fiber Optic Technician, with waterfront knowledge under supervision of a Lead Technician Level IV. Provide training to Technician Level II and I personnel. They are responsible for reporting all task completions and production reporting to their Lead Technician and will be capable of standing in as Lead Technician when required. Ensure that all work performed is in accordance with ship specification requirements while complying with all OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures. Execute plans of electrical and fiber installations to include, but not limited to 115VAC/440VAC/Various VDC equipment, fiber optics, lighting, announcing, RF antennas, audio/video, interior communications and alarms, and network systems. They will operate efficiently in a team environment and demonstrate effective leadership qualities while dealing with junior personnel. Receive mentorship/guidance from Lead Technician or Task Lead for questions on any assigned tasks that are not fully understood.



Responsibilities

    Execute plans of electrical installations for many different electrical and electronic systems such as lighting, announcing, 115V/440V electrical plant equipment, Uninterrupted Power Supply equipment, Audio/Video equipment, Antenna systems and many others
  • Install, build, splice and troubleshoot fiber optic cabling and Multimode, Siglemode termini and ST connectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NAVSEA STDs 009-73, 009-123,MIL-STD-2042 and MIL-STD-1678.
    • Read, understand and follow customer work item instructions, drawings and cable routing diagrams to install, tag and band

      fiber optic cable assemblies on board US Navy Ships.

    • Use customer wiring list drawings for termination of fiber optic connectors in accordance with Military Standards and NAVY

      Standard Items

    • Use optical test equipment in conjunction with customer wiring list drawings and NAVY Standard Items for performing in-

      process and final test of installed and terminated cable assemblies

    • Troubleshoot and repair damaged or non-conforming cable assemblies as necessary to ensure full compliance with customer

      specifications and requirements

    • Document and maintain detailed test and inspection records for all cable assemblies tested and inspected

    • Ensure proper setup and calibration of all termination and test equipment

  • Install electrical cabinets, fixtures and equipment for various electrical systems
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks using various MIL-SPEC connectors
  • Pull in cables of various lengths and sizes to accommodate system connections
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment
  • Potentially run shipboard availabilities with a small crew


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED plus at least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Proven experience as a fiber optic technician
  • Current Navy Shipboard Fiber Optic certification
  • Experience in marine electrical and fiber optic systems
  • Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g. wire strippers, voltmeter etc.)
  • Demonstrate ability to build MIL-SPEC connectors of various types and sizes using both soldering and crimping techniques
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and installation drawings and blueprints
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
  • Flexibility with regards to scheduling and planned support due to constant Navy movement
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Navy DBIDS security credentials
  • Valid Security Clearance, or the ability to qualify and maintain one

Salary

R&P offers a highly competitive compensation package that includes contributions toward health insurance, 401(k) matching, and other non-salary benefits. Exact salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00 per hour ($72,800.00-79,040.00 annually).
