Primary Purpose:

Plans and designs distribution systems with voltage levels typically 34.5K and below. Determines need, size, location and timing of system development to balance economic, environmental, social and regulatory constraints and reliability needs

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Contributes to and implements design modifications to improve quality of projects and process improvements.
  • Creates technical documents and reports to track project progress.
  • Conducts site visits and inspections to ensure proper installation and functioning of power distribution systems.
  • Supports the design of new distribution circuits to ensure reliable electricity delivery within the service area.
  • Performs load studies to determine current and future electricity demand, assisting in planning system upgrades or expansions.
  • Conducts root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
  • Supports existing equipment designs by identifying areas for improvement and leading design changes.
  • Performs analysis such as power flow, voltage drop modeling, available fault current calculations, load balancing, protective device coordination, and sectionalizing analysis necessary to ensure safe and reliable operation of the cooperatives power system.
  • Evaluates the reliability of existing distribution systems and recommend improvements to minimize downtime.
  • Assists in selecting appropriate materials and equipment, preparing specifications for procurement and ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).


Hybrid Schedule:



  • Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.



Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE) certification in addition to five (5) years of engineering experience or an Advanced degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 2 years related engineering experience
  • Power System Engineering - A subfield of electrical engineering that deals with the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electric power, and the electrical apparatus connected to such systems.
  • Engineering Design - A series of steps that engineers follow to find a solution to a problem.
  • Power System Analysis - Performing calculations and simulations to verify that power systems, including the system components, are correctly specified to perform as intended, withstand expected stress and are protected against failures.
  • Project/Program Management - The process of leading the work of a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time.
  • Energy Distribution Systems Management - The process of managing and operating the most economical energy distribution systems or networks to meet defined performance goals.
  • Requirements Management - The process of documenting, analyzing, tracing, prioritizing and agreeing on requirements and then controlling change and communicating to relevant stakeholders.
  • Specifications Development - Understanding the context, stakeholders and requirements of a project, and developing measurable criteria by which projects can be evaluated.
  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management - The systematic approach to maintain health and safety at occupation and protect the environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes. I
  • Data Analysis & Modeling - The process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions, making predictions, and supporting decision-making.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification
