Job Summary

The Administrative Director, Neurology, reports to the Associate Director of Adult Medical Specialties, Ambulatory Services. This position will collaborate with the Associate Director with the administrative, operational, strategic and financial aspects of the multiple clinics in the department of Neurology. The incumbent will utilize key performance indicators (KPI) to drive changes to increase efficiency and productivity. This role has oversight of 109 FTE's including direct supervision of 5 administrative managers along with oversight of the mixed medical center and campus Weill building. The operating budget for this position is 53M shared across all three campuses and satellite clinics.

This position will be the main contact for the various other departments that collaborate with Neurology with attention to centralized authorization unit and contact center. The incumbent will have dyad relationship with each chief and or clinic medical director to prioritize long and short-term goals of their respective clinics. They will then then determine the objectives and develop the strategies/policies and manage the human, financial, and physical resources to meet those objectives. The administrative director will then oversee and monitor the implementation and operationalization of these strategies through their subordinate managers. The position will also collaborate with the clinical nursing director for medical specialties regarding Nursing, APP's, pharmaceutical, and general regulatory and clinical issues.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $183,100 - $274,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Adult Neurology clinics is one of the largest Neurology departments in the country with hundred(s) of clinicians that diagnose and treat complex neurological disease. The adult Neurology clinics are comprised of 12 outpatient Cost Centers.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training
  • 5-10 years related experience in leadership, supervisory, or management level role
  • Current experience managing Adult Neurology clinic
  • Current experience in managing multi-site clinics
  • Current experience managing clinics with 100+ total FTEs
  • Current experience collaborating with central scheduling, authorization, and call centers
  • Strong clinic / center management experience, with progressive expertise in practice management, scheduling, customer-service methods, incident reporting, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, information technology, and the policies, principles, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic / center administration
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and patient care workflows and processes
  • Excellent skills in successfully managing clinic / center administration functions. Skills to develop strategic plans, create benchmarks, integrate systems and fiscal management
  • Excellent and advanced managerial skills and human resources management knowledge, including staff deployment, resource utilization, budgeting and financial management, quality improvement, and program planning and implementation
  • Excellent and advanced communications skills to convey complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of staff, management, and outside agencies, with the ability to motivate, influence, and persuade others
