Job Summary

This position is assigned to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR), under the general supervision of the Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement (PEQI) Unit Chief. The PEQI Unit is responsible for evaluating and continuously improving the quality of OIDPR programs and infectious disease emergency preparedness activities, including the monitoring and evaluation of the Pathways into Public Health (Pathways) Fellowship and Internship Programs.

The Evaluation Coordinator serves as the evaluation subject matter expert for the Pathways Internship Program. Related duties include designing evaluation instruments, collecting and managing large volumes of data, analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data, interpreting data clearly, and making sound recommendations to enhance programmatic implementation. In addition to Pathways-related evaluation duties, the Evaluation Coordinator is responsible for supporting evaluation needs for emergent infectious disease issues that may arise (e.g., H5N1) and for providing technical assistance to other OIDPR teams related to program evaluation and quality improvement, as needed. In the case of a public health emergency, this position may be asked to redirect to serve rotations in emergency staffing roles aligned with their classification level and skills.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $55,700 - $90,000 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in public health or related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • At least one year of public health or directly related experience
  • Ability to develop relationships and communicate with individuals in a professional and empathetic manner, maintaining emotional and cultural awareness
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing, with the ability to contribute to clear and concise reports, presentations, and documentation
  • Skilled in the use of a personal computer and basic software applications (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams and/or Zoom)
  • Basic organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet assigned deadlines
  • Ability to manage tasks independently (with guidance and supervision) and know when to ask for support from supervisor
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain al confidentiality
  • Working skills to analyze information and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications


  • At least one year experience with program evaluation, such as: evaluation planning and implementation, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and summarizing of results
  • At least one year quality improvement or equivalent experience
  • Experience creating professional slides for projects and presentations
  • Experience using survey software such as REDCap or Qualtrics
  • Ability to perform strategic and effective data acquisition, management, quality, storage, use, and application of data to address population health needs
