Our Strategic Analytics & Intelligence (SAI) team is dedicated to solving complex healthcare challenges and improving patient outcomes. SAI empowers business partners across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) to make impactful decisions by leveraging data, analytics, and AI/ML to enable fast, targeted actions in rapidly evolving business contexts.

SAI fosters a unified understanding of customers, actions, and outcomes by integrating analytics and insights seamlessly into CMG's evolving digital, data, and automation platforms, creating scalable solutions and eliminating silos.

The Data Science Team within SAI exists to help the CMG (Commercial, Medical and Government) organization achieve its vision by unlocking value from data quicker and more effectively. As a center of excellence, the DS team has 3 primary remits: Owning Advanced Data Science Strategy and Innovation for SAI and CMG; Application of Data Science to CMG enterprise priorities, and; Driving the Data Science Capability on behalf of the SAI department. The team leverages advanced data science capabilities, working across CMG to develop strategic and holistic solutions by identifying and leading innovative data science capabilities.

The Opportunity

The Predictive AI/Agentic AI Platform Suite Executive Director within the Strategic Analytics and Insights (SAI) team is responsible for leading, managing, and directing the Predictive AI / Agentic AI Platform Suite. This role will define the strategic vision, drive innovation and oversee the development, and growth of our suite of the Predictive AI platform.The Executive Director will collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to align the platform's capabilities with organizational priorities, optimize resource allocation, and foster adoption of AI-powered tools. This position requires a visionary leadership, strategic mindset, technical expertise, and the ability to build and scale AI solutions while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and ethical AI best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Vision

  • Set strategic vision and direction for the Predictive AI / Agentic AI Platform Suite, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities to maximize business impact through AI-powered capabilities.

  • Define, and be accountable for executing, a strategic roadmap for the Predictive Platform portfolio, establishing and ensuring adherence to business product and technology policies and standards while collaborating with senior leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Evaluate and prioritize platform initiatives, making necessary trade-offs to optimize outcomes.

  • Define and oversee the full lifecycle strategy for the platform suite from identifying and integrating AI solutions to sunsetting legacy offerings, optimizing for overall suite performance, with evolving business priorities.

  • Accountable for resource allocation and investments both in the near-term and long-term across the suite of predictive AI; work with other suite leads to make resourcing tradeoff decisions across all product suites.

Adoption Enablement, Experimentation & Performance Optimization

  • Serve as the AI executive champion for the Predictive AI / Agentic AI Platform Suite, articulating its strategic value to senior stakeholders, influencing enterprise decision-making, and fostering a culture of AI innovation and accountability.

  • Partner with relevant Genentech Activation teams in order to develop a structured change management strategy, inclusive of stakeholder engagement, communication plans, and ongoing support.

  • Define hypotheses, design experiments, and conduct tests in collaboration with other IT, analytics, and product teams.

  • Set and track performance and adoption metrics across the platform suite, in partnership with Genentech Activation teams, including regularly reporting on efficiency gains and business impact.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead enterprise-wide initiatives to promote AI literacy, product adoption, and alignment, facilitating structured engagements and feedback loops across the organization.

  • Partner with Analytical Product Suite Stewards and Business Product Owners to infuse Predictive AI/Agentic AI capabilities into business and analytic products where and when applicable.

  • Identify, establish and manage strategic partnerships with technology providers, research institutions and other organizations to expand the platform's capabilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders (VP, SVP level) across CMG to identify AI use cases, gather business requirements, analyze market trends, and shape the overall AI platform strategy.

  • Develop and implement cross product strategies that align with the strategic objectives of Patients, Customers, and the Enterprise.

  • Drive CMG cross-functional alignment, collaborating seamlessly with other leaders across Commercial, Medical, Access and Informatics to align product strategies with business objectives, make necessary tradeoffs, ensure rapid product development, drive adoption, and track progress of the Predictive Platform Portfolio.

Governance & Compliance

  • Establish standard practices among data product teams to shape individual product strategy aligned to business needs.

  • Ensure adherence to ethical AI practices and governance standards across the AI platform suite, aligning AI capabilities with responsible AI frameworks, compliance requirements, and business objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies, upholding the integrity of Genentech's activities and product stewardship.

  • Partner with internal experts in Legal, Compliance, and Medical Affairs, to mitigate business risks and uphold Genentech's policies and ethical standards; hold teams accountable for adherence to these standards.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, technology, data science, or a related field.

  • 12+ years of experience, with 5+ years in data science, AI, product management, software development or equivalent experience

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent

  • Deep understanding of predictive and agentic AI technologies

  • Expertise in data science concepts, methodologies and technologies

  • Passion for innovation and a commitment to ethical AI design and development

  • Ability to own and manage the predictive AI and agentic AI platform including visioning, roadmap creation, execution, and impact measurement.

  • Expertise in driving platform improvements based on measurement and optimization insights.

  • Fluency / comfort with data systems, technology platforms, and integrations to inform strategic product decisions.

  • Strong skills in budget management, resource allocation, and stakeholder alignment for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent (direct or indirect).

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities to drive change, influence stakeholders, and evangelize the product vision.

  • Experience working in an agile setting or bringing agile best-practice mentorship to the team.

  • Experience collaborating with Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to ensure adherence to governance and regulatory standards, and help influencing & evolving standards where needed

  • Proven ability to adapt and navigate ambiguous or evolving environments.

  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on balancing short-term execution and long-term vision.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree, or equivalent experience (e.g., Computer Science, MBA or related graduate-level qualification).

  • Relevant certifications in product management, machine learning, data science, and other disciplines.

  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industries.

  • Proven success in managing large-scale, complex products requiring strategic planning and operational execution.

  • Advanced knowledge of workflow tools, automation systems, and compliance frameworks

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and relocation assistance is available

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $227,500 - $422,500 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
