Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications

Reporting to and collaborating closely with the Associate Vice President for Interprofessional Practice and Education, the Director will spearhead pivotal strategic initiatives and manage communications to engage stakeholders and showcase the impact of interprofessional practice and education across the university. They will identify and prioritize strategic initiatives that advance interprofessional practice and education. For example, they might lead the development of a new interprofessional curriculum that integrates medical, nursing, and pharmacy students into collaborative learning environments. Additionally, they could coordinate a series of workshops aimed at enhancing collaborative skills among healthcare professionals.

They will ensure that the Associate Vice President is proactively engaged with and informed of potential and new initiatives, such as launching a university-wide interprofessional research symposium or developing a comprehensive communication strategy to highlight the successes of interprofessional practice and education programs. The Director will also keep the Associate Vice President abreast of progress toward goals, always including enablers and distractors. Specific high-level deliverables could include leading the writing and production of The Ohio State University Interprofessional Practice and Education Annual Report describing progress toward the units strategic roadmap or providing oversight to the development of a communication plan announcing a new initiative for longitudinal medical center team development.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years in health sciences education or practice, strategic planning, business planning, and program evaluation required. Master of Education, Master of Health Administration, Master of Business Administration, or terminal degree in medicine or other health sciences preferred. Experience in educational consulting, strategic planning in an academic medical center, health sciences college or school, or marketing and communications is desired. Requires successful completion of a background. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

30% Communications:

  • Create and present comprehensive presentations and communications to facilitate discussions with health science college, university, and medical center faculty, staff, and executive leaders dealing with key strategic issues related to interprofessional practice and education.
  • Manage communication channels with all stakeholders to ensure awareness, engagement, and leadership opportunities in IPE are continuous, enabled, and facilitated.
  • Coordinate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to gather insights and feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and other communications materials to effectively convey the impact and outcomes of strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive communication strategies to highlight the impact and successes of interprofessional practice and education across the university and nationally.

30% Leadership/Strategy:

  • Execute business and strategic plans relative to interprofessional practice and educations.
  • Design, implement, and continuously refine frameworks and models for key activities and processes, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and best practices.
  • Lead the development and oversee implementation of performance measurement and quality improvement systems to monitor and enhance the effectiveness of interprofessional practice and education initiatives.
  • Guide the analysis and development of best practices and using evidence-based approaches to support decisions that advance interprofessional practice and education (IPE) across the health science colleges and with strategic university partners.
  • Monitor and assess industry trends and best practices in interprofessional practice and education, integrating relevant innovations into the universitys IPE programs.
  • Ensure that IPE initiatives are on track and faculty, students, staff, practice leaders, and community members are actively involved, engaged, supported, and enabled as innovators, co-creators, participants, and beneficiaries in interprofessional practice and education.

25% Manage Growth Initiatives:

  • Develop, manage and/or improve processes of critical interprofessional activities, including identifying opportunities for new initiatives; optimize processes through collaboration and consensus-building with project team members, management, and stakeholders.
  • Provide data and details on new initiatives that support interprofessional collaboration and other funding initiatives; develop and maintain strong relationships with administrators in marketing and communications, human resources, financial administration, and information technology to coordinate information, decisions, and resources.
  • Drive continuous growth and development of new and innovative initiatives that inform, form, and strengthen to the Ohio State University and Wexner Medical Center strategic goals related to IPE.
  • Plan, conduct, and analyze special studies related to IPE and makes recommendations for further program development and enhancement networks across the University and wider community to identify potential collaborators and strategies to advance the mission.
