Overview AmTrust E&S Insurance Services, a member of the AmTrust group of companies, is searching for an experienced and knowledgeable AVP Underwriting, to act as the Deputy Home Office Underwriting Officer for our E&S Business Unit. This internal facing role will work with the Head of Home Office Underwriting to drive E&S strategy, monitor results, and provide insight that leads to underwriting profitability. The E&S Home Office Underwriting Unit provides oversight, monitoring, and steering of the primary, excess, general binding, property, and environmental lines of business. Success in this role will be defined by our ability to further empower our underwriting teams to make quality decisions, serve our partners, write profitable business, and enhance a collaborative culture of support across the E&S platform. Responsibilities * Providing underwriting expertise to the underwriting units * Monitoring execution of appetite directives * Crafting underwriting and appetite/risk selection guidelines * Conducting internal audits of the various E&S teams to further corporate governance standards * Providing account and claim reviews for senior management * Establishing underwriter training to enhance individual and team talent/skill-set development * Assisting in portfolio appetite expansion * Participating in forms development and refinement in collaboration with the Products Development Committee * Working with the production department heads to develop and refine the underwriting control environment Qualifications * 15+ years of Commercial Underwriting primary and/or excess background with emphasis on E&S Casualty * Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; advanced degree and/or industry accreditation(s) preferred * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to work with people to provide strong customer service (internal and external) * Exceptional written and verbal communication skills * Comfort reaching out to and working with our Claims, Actuarial, Compliance, and Legal colleagues * Experience working with the wholesale brokerage community * Team focused with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment * Understanding of costs and expenses * Travel Requirements: ability to travel 10% is necessary to this position The salary range for this role is $200k - $215/year. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Chicago, IL. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics.
