Position Purpose







This position will interface with all guests, visitors, families, and patients arriving or calling the nursing units. The incumbent provides directions and information to visitors, as well as making appropriate referrals. This position is accountable for entering physician orders into the computer system.

This position assumes responsibility for producing high quality electrocardiographic (EKG) tracings and rhythm strips while recognizing atypical EKG patterns and arrythmias.

This position is a key position as the incumbent is often the first contact for anyone who is arriving on or calling the nursing units.









Nature and Scope







This position is challenged by an ongoing variety of customers with concerns and needs that require attention and a timely response.

This position has internal contact daily with personnel from all departments for the purpose of requesting medical supplies and checking scheduled times for patient treatment or test. This position also has contact with physicians, nurses, technicians, visitors, and patients by taking messages, paging, transferring phone calls, faxing information to physicians' offices and other departments. Responsible to refer appropriate calls and concerns to the appropriate care givers.

This position is further challenged to accurately transcribe physician orders; communicate effectively with people, especially nurses, for the clarification of orders; function efficiently in stressful situations and be able to identify and maintain priorities with orders and remain courteous and tactful.

The incumbent will often deal with situations that are extremely sensitive in nature. It is imperative that all situations be treated with tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and compassion.

This position is responsible for customer service, verifying physician order entry chart maintenance, unit supplies, answering phones, computer usage, filing, monitor tech duties on monitored floors when applicable, and additional clerical tasks.

The Unit Clerk/Monitor Tech is responsible for rhythm identification including life-threatening dysrhythmias. A Registered Nurse must review all rhythm strips. Rhythm changes require immediate notification of the Registered Nurse.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards.

ER and CDU Incumbents may be responsible for the following:

* Unit Clerk/Monitor Tech in the Emergency Department and the Clinical Decision Unit is responsible for performing 12-lead EKGs at the bedside and rhythm identification including life-threatening dysrhythmias. A Registered Nurse must review all rhythm strips. Rhythm changes require immediate notification of the Registered Nurse. The Unit Clerk/Monitor Tech in the Emergency Department and Clinical Decision unit is responsible for improving patient experience and patient throughput. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge necessary to meet ED specific patient experience key performance measures and ED throughput key performance measures, in-collaboration with the ED leadership team and the ED charge nurses. The incumber will facilitate the ED multidisciplinary rounds, under the supervision of the ED Hospitalist Provider.

* The Unit Clerk/Monitor Tech in the Emergency Department and Clinical Decision unit is responsible for expediting and providing health care access through the accurate gathering of demographic, sponsorship or guardian data, clinical, financial, and statistical information from a variety of sources, i.e. patients, patient's families, physicians, physician office staff, county, and/or governmental agencies, CMS, FMS, etc.

This position does provide patient care.

Description



Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Medical terminology is preferred.



Experience:



One-year customer service experience is required. One year PC and medical experience preferred.

Completion of Renown Health Computer Class for Unit Clerk/Monitor Techs before actively working on the unit is preferred.



License(s):



None



Certification(s):



Successful completion of Renown Health EKG Interpretation Class is required at time of hire.

200325 and 200326: AHA BLS certification is required at time of hire.

200325 and 200326: Successful completion of Renown Health 12 Lead EKG class is required at time of hire.



Computer / Typing:



Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
