Emergency Preparedness Coordinator: Compliance Safety

Summary:

The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, management, oversite and sustainment of the emergency management program for all Akron Children's facilities throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania. The position will be located primarily at the main Campus in Akron; however, supervision and implementation of the programs at all facilities is part of the responsibilities associated with this position. This position requires a thorough understanding of healthcare emergency preparedness, regulatory and technical issues, good problem solving, good communication and conflict resolution skills. This position ensures that all facilities emergency management programs are managed and maintained in a safe and effective manner.

Responsibilities:

1. Adds value as a key member of the Emergency Preparedness Team and the Compliance and Life Safety department; understands regulatory compliance, all forms of emergency preparedness strategies and the key components of excellent customer service.

2. Provides direction, coaches, trains, develops, and manages performance to company goals and expectations.

3. Demonstrates high level competence in Healthcare Emergency Management, Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Preparedness.

4. Serves as the subject matter expert during mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery phases.

5. Works in constant coordination with all entities at both on and off-site locations.

6. Prepares, manages, and adheres to department and grant budgets to maintain expenditure controls.

7. Oversees all operations associated with emergency preparedness.

8. Provides staff and management direction when needed.

9. Communicates issues to both internal and external hospital departments and contacts. Provides direct oversite and management of all mass-notification software.

10. Works with hospital departments, nursing, medical and support services leadership to coordinate and support an overall emergency preparedness plan and strategy.

11. Plan and coordinates training and implementation of emergency drills to ensure staff understanding and appropriate and effective responses in the event of an emergency. Drills and training meet and/or exceed the requirements set forth by The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and all regulatory agencies.

12. Coordinates a multi-disciplinary team to prepare, complete and manage the Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA) at all identified locations on an annual basis and as needs and locations change.

13. Coordinates a multi-disciplinary team to prepare, complete and manage the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for all identified locations and scenarios on an annual basis and as needs and locations change.

14. Provide education and training for staff on emergency preparedness topics, including but not limited to: Incident Command System, decontamination procedures, etc.

15. Coordinates all emergency incidents and maintenance of the Hospital Incident Command Centers.

16. Provides coordination and execution of emergency preparedness Hospital-wide exercises and represents the hospital on local, regional and State exercise planning committees.

17. Leads the Emergency Management Committee as well as provides support and assistance to all departmental groups and subcommittees as required.

18. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that conform to all regulatory standards; meets with practitioners and hospital staff to explain and facilitate methods and training to meet standards.

19. Attends and actively participates in local, regional, state and federal level emergency preparedness meetings.

20. Follows and enforces building codes, NFPA, environmental, and life safety regulations.

21. Follows and enforces Joint Commission and CMS regulations.

22. Local daily travel required, as needed.

23. Other duties as required.

Other information:
Technical Expertise

1. Experience with building codes, NFPA, environmental, and life safety regulations is preferred.

2. Experience with Joint Commission and CMS regulatory bodies is required.

3. Experience working effectively with all levels within an organization is required.

4. Experience writing and implementing procedures and protocols is required.

5. Strong communication, both verbal and written, required.

6. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required.

7. Excellent spelling and grammar for drafting and editing Executive-level correspondence, presentations and written projects required.

8. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint] or similar software is required. High level of proficiency with CMMS software is required.

Education and Experience

1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Planning, Business Continuity, Disaster Management or related field is required.

2. Certification: CHEP is preferred

3. ICS Training 100, 200, 700 and 800 is required.

4. Years of relevant experience: minimum 3 years preferred

5. Healthcare experience preferred.

6. Valid driver's license required.
