Summary:

Temple Information Technology Services seeks a proficient, dedicated, and detailed-minded Endpoint Engineer to join the team. This multifaceted position reports to the Director, Systems Architecture and encompasses the design and management of an application packaging environment, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Intune administration, while serving as a technical point of contact for the supported departments.

As a lead for application packaging, the primary responsibility will be to design the application packaging environment and manage the end-to-end process of packaging applications for deployment within our environment. Works closely with department heads and school, college, and dedicated support IT directors to gather requirements, analyze applications, and ensure proper testing and deployment procedures are followed. Ensures that applications are appropriately packaged, customized, and compatible with Temple's systems while designing a robust environment.

This position will serve as a primary Intune Engineer, leveraging expertise in Microsoft Intune to develop Intune policies utilizing existing Active Directory group policies. Works closely with cross-functional teams to architect and deliver robust, scalable, and secure solutions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

* Exercises discretion in decision-making based on best practices, technical expertise, and professional judgment.

* Handles a wide range of customer support/service issues, personally communicating directly (electronically or in person) with university stakeholders.

* Makes decisions proactively to improve the overall quality of support and services provided by Information Technology Services.

* Identifies business process improvement opportunities and follow up to ensure that they are vetted and then adopted.

* Works with other university business units as needed to solve procedural and technical challenges as they arise.

Key Responsibilities as the application packager:

* Application Packaging Environment: Develops an application packaging environment, including tools used, software catalog development, processes, and procedures used for application packaging.

* Application Packaging: Packages site-licensed, subscription-based, third-party software applications using industry-standard tools such as MSI, App-V, and MSIX.

* Requirements Gathering:Collaborates with department heads, school and college IT directors, and dedicated support IT directors to gather and analyze requirements for application packaging, including version compatibility, customization needs, and deployment preferences.

* Compatibility Testing:Ensures thorough compatibility testing is completed for packaged applications for seamless integration with existing systems while identifying and resolving any conflicts or issues that may arise.

* Quality Assurance:Implements quality assurance processes and procedures to verify the functionality of packaged applications, conducting pre-deployment testing and troubleshooting to address any issues.

* Customization:Customizes application installations, including installation and configuration settings, file associations, and user preferences.

* Documentation:Creates and maintains detailed documentation for our software catalog, including installation guides, release notes, and version histories.

* Deployment Management:

Utilizes Intune to deploy and manage applications to end-user devices, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements. Coordinates the deployment of packaged applications within the organization, working closely with department heads, school and college IT directors, and dedicated support IT directors to schedule installations, manage dependencies, and minimize end-user disruption.

* Patch Management and Updates:

Research software updates and patches for production packaged applications, managing the packaging and deployment of updates to ensure security and stability.

Key Responsibilities as the Intune engineer:

* Configuration Management:

Configures and maintains Intune policies and profiles to manage device settings, security controls, and application access within our Microsoft Windows environment (WIN10/11).

* Security Compliance:Monitors and enforces security compliance standards through Intune and Entra, implementing device encryption, conditional access policies, and other security measures to protect university resources.

* Troubleshooting:Provides technical support and troubleshooting for Intune-related issues, diagnosing and resolving problems related to device enrollment, application deployment, and policy enforcement.

* Research: Stays informed of new Intune features and capabilities, leveraging new functionalities to enhance device management and user experience in our environment.

Key Responsibilities as the SCCM engineer:

* Administers Microsoft SCCM for software deployment, patch management, and endpoint configuration management.

* Manages collection membership.

* Troubleshooting SCCM client issues.

* Creates and monitors deployments of software updates, packages, and compliance items.

* Generates reports within SCCM console or SQL in support of departmental and university-wide initiatives.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in a relevant field.

Minimum of (3) years of recent experience packaging applications, application updates, and deployments using Microsoft Intune and SCCM. Experience with virtualizing applications and remote access tools. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities

* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.

* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Intune and SCCM.

* Advanced knowledge of application installations on the Microsoft Windows platforms.

* Familiarity with PowerShell scripting.

* Advanced hardware and software troubleshooting skills.

* Ability to develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive IT documentation.

* Advanced knowledge of MS Windows server and Windows desktop operating systems and associated registries.

* Advanced Hardware/Software troubleshooting skills.

* Strong understanding of system security in all environments.

* Ability to develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive IT documentation.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Active DirectoryandMicrosoft Entra ID.

* Knowledge of MS Windows server and Windows desktop operating systems and associated registries.

* Ability to work extended hours

* Ability to work nights/weekends/early mornings

* Ability to travel to offsite Temple locations that may not be accessible via public transportation.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required skills and abilities

* Demonstrated experience in MS Office Suite, including high proficiency in Excel.

* Experience with research administration systems, such as eRA.

* Experience working with faculty and instructors on their educational, scholarly, and practice/clinical needs for online and in-person instruction.

* Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

* Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively interact with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
