ISO New England is the not-for-profit, independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England's ongoing transition to clean energy.

ISO New England's IT Real-Time Market Application team is focused, passionate, team-oriented, and results-driven. The team is responsible for providing functional and technical expertise to projects and assignments pertaining to some of the most critical business functions inside the organization.

In this role, you will work with state-of-the-art Market & Energy Management Systems utilizing niche technologies to support the reliable and economic administration of the wholesale electricity market in New England.

How you will make an impact:



  • Analyze, design, program, troubleshoot, and implement fixes associated with Real-Time Market Systems and related applications
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform complex technical assignments related to software applications in support of the Operations, Market Administration, Internal Market Mitigation, and Outage Scheduling groups
  • Provide production support to various internal and external-facing applications
  • Coordinate with consultants and vendors on project deliverables
  • Integrate software solutions across multiple applications, systems, and databases
  • Follow Change Management and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) policies and procedures



What you need to be successful in this role:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or Computer Science required; advanced degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of bulk power systems and energy market operations
  • Programming skills in Java and Oracle technologies is required
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, DevOps, GitOps, and Docker technologies is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Effective ability to work in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to participate in the on-call rotation, which may include working hours outside of the standard schedule; prior on-call experience is a plus
  • Desired (but not required):

    • Working experience in electric utilities, ISOs, or RTOs
    • Experience with GE Grid (formerly Alstom) MMS/EMS or similar products
    • Knowledge of optimization algorithms
