Job Overview

Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, HBC collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. HBC is located within the University of Cincinnati (UC), College of Medicine (COM). UC COM has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, UC COM's faculty and staff are transforming the world of medicine every day.



Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is seeking a full-time Operations Systems Engineer, to manage, maintain and operate all systems and support related blood operations.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure all donor services systems are properly installed, tested and ensure their availability, integrity and reliability. Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve system hardware and software issues.
  • Develop and maintain system-specific standard operating procedures and policies for donor services and interdepartmental end-users.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of plans for new donor services' systems and peripheral devices.
  • Assist in evaluating hardware and software; assess the impact of new software on existing systems and users and develop modification plans as needed. Recommend hardware and software procurement.
  • Plan and implement upgrades and modifications to system configurations to improve utilization based on analysis of application and production requirements.
  • Collaborate with the end-user community to assess, correct, manage and understand data access and integration needs.
  • Act as a liaison between Hoxworth staff, field management, quality assurance, IT and medical direction to provide continual process improvement of donor services systems and content.
  • Analyze release notes for system upgrades, write validation plans and test scripts for upgrades and perform validation testing.
  • Identify and implement changes to ensure conformance to requirements established by FDA, AABB, CDC and other regulating bodies.
  • May provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
