About this Position

This position involves providing support for several technical service areas and will be based out of Pinyon's Lakewood, Colorado office. Some travel to western states may also be required.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to those stated below. Training (internal or external) will be provided as required by the task and individual experience.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II ESAs, Preliminary Investigation, Remedial Investigations, and Environmental audits.
  • Development of scope and fee for proposals.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply environmental regulations.
  • Manage tasks and projects, including tracking and conforming to budgets, scopes, contract requirements, and client needs.
  • Communicate effectively throughout the project lifecycle; proactively responding to internal and external client requests.
  • Manage the work of junior staff, subcontractors, sub-consultants, vendors, etc., in conformance with the written scope of work and associated agreements.
  • Review reports and submittals from subcontractors.
  • Gather and assess data and other information to be used in the preparation of scientific reports.
  • Compile and organize environmental data collected by others, and/or for use by others.
  • Apply knowledge of natural sciences (geology, soil characteristics, chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.
  • Assess environmental (chemical and non-chemical) data used in the preparation of scientific reports.
  • Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines.
  • Maintain project documents and records in an organized and easily understood fashion and according to our standard operating procedures.
  • Assist staff with other project, marketing, and administrative tasks to support the firm to meet mission and vision goals.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Geologic Engineering, GeoScience or similar field.
  • Professional Geologist (PG) registration or ability to obtain registration within 1 year.
  • 6 to 10 years of experience completing technical writing, task or project management, Phase I and Phase II ESAs, subsurface investigations, site characterization, subcontractor oversight, borehole logging, monitoring well construction, and/or soil and groundwater sampling.
  • 4+ years of field experience with borehole logging, soil classification, and monitoring well construction.
  • Completion of 40-hour OSHA training and recent 8-hour refresher.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proven record of completing projects/assignments within budget and on schedule.
  • Familiarity with the following is beneficial, but not required:

    • ASTM E1527-21
    • ASTM D2488 - Visual-Manual Method or Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)
    • State environmental regulations (Soil, Groundwater, Surface Water, Soil Gas, Vapor Intrusion): Arizona, Colorado, North Dakota, Wyoming
    • Standard environmental field equipment (e.g., PID, water level meter, water quality meter, multi-gas meter)
    • Environmental monitoring during construction
    • Standard and advanced Health and Safety protocol
    • Asbestos building inspections
    • Colorado asbestos in soil regulations and processes
    • Lead paint inspections
    • GPS and surveying
    • Watershed science
    • Dewatering Permitting
    • Familiarity with Ajera to help with Project/Task Management responsibilities
    • Familiarity with Cosential to document projects, opportunities, and communications


  • Ability to work independently and in group environments.
