What You Will Do:

The Quality Manager - Product Validation is responsible for product performance testing to support the needs of product development and marketing research. This includes managing the workload and schedule of Engineering's Validation department. The role also includes managing and supporting product certifications through UL and other Standards organizations.

Essential Functions:




  • Manage and lead the staff to properly test and document product performance. Create a growth plan for employees desiring one.
  • Manage the department's workload and activities and keep these aligned with any priority lists.
  • Manage the hiring and onboarding process, including maintaining relationships with recruiters, university placement services, and our HR department.
  • Objective and comprehensive testing - Ensure the department has the tools and skills to properly validate products against design specifications, various compliance agency and/or regulatory standards, and customer requirements.
  • Establish test procedures. Create or improve Internal Test Standards to standardize how HT evaluates product performance.
  • Apply appropriate analysis tools including appropriate statistical methods, DOE's, and Lean Product Development tools to optimize product designs, molds, and processes.
  • Test reports. Ensure adherence to best practices for creating and storing reports.
  • Effectively communicate with all areas of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the QA Lab to ensure the successful transfer of defined product testing to Operations for use in production.
  • Design and procure test fixtures and test equipment for validating product performance. SolidWorks CAD trained/experience beneficial.
  • Applies understanding and knowledge of both Lean and Lean Product Development.
  • Coordinate and prioritize validation activities to properly support changing project priorities, and provide reliable estimated project lead times.
  • Ensures all key areas or systems of product development have Subject Matter Experts, administrators, support personnel, etc. and HT is working to incorporate new technologies and best practices, where appropriate.



Other Functions




  • Manage UL certification projects. Work with UL to get new products approved. Develop scope for work, write and issue POs, and ensure testing is done correctly.
  • Global cooperation and harmonization of best practices, including GS2, ITS, and other activities associated with product evaluation.
  • Works with marketing and quality to ensure the certification information is organized.
  • Manage and work within the product development budget.



Success in this role will require:




  • Leadership. Able to understand each person's strengths and weaknesses and create the best overall workforce.
  • Communication. Communicate effectively at all levels. Can quickly assess the audience and appropriate message.
  • Operating Lab Equipment. Ability to operate and understand all functions of the department's testing and evaluation equipment. Understands the limits to properly characterize results.
  • Comprehend and follow HT's various compliance agency, regulatory, and customer test standards, specifications, and requirements.
  • Lead personnel in the Validation Department and provide training when necessary. Proofread test reports prior to release. Maintain a high level of excellence of work performed in the Validation Test Lab.
  • Lean thinking, action, and organization.



What You Bring (Qualifications):




  • B.S. in Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in design verification and validation testing.
  • Excellent supervisory, management, and leadership skills.
  • Experience dealing with Standard Development Organizations and other bodies related to product certifications.
