General Summary

As a Laborer, you will perform tasks involving physical labor within the Cement Division. The position includes operating a variety of hand and power tools related to the labor classification job, such as wire wheeling or needle scaler, to clean and prepare work sites, bag cementitious products, operate mobile powered equipment, remove waste material, and clean up rubble and debris.

Minimum Requirements

Possess good judgment - must pass the job description physical capacity functions test.
* A high school diploma or equivalent is a must.
* Valid State of Hawaii driver's license, Class 3 or higher.
* Must submit and pass a drug screening and security background check. Obtain a TWIC security card.
* Must become a Hawaii Teamsters and Allied Workers Local 996 member.

Preferred Requirements

Mechanical experience a plus.

Duties and/or Responsibilities

What you will get to do:
* Performs basic field checks such as looking for safety hazards or reporting equipment damages, basic operator preventive maintenance, and lubrication on assigned equipment. Cleans equipment and performs basic repairs to minimize production interruptions. Performs necessary operator servicing on mobile equipment as needed.
* Sacks and desacks cement bags and Super Sacks. Shovels cement and other materials as required.
* Signal equipment operators and truckers to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
* Clean and prepare work areas to eliminate potential hazards. Maintains good housekeeping.
* Load, unload, and identify job site materials, machinery, and tools and distribute them to the appropriate locations as directed.
* Works closely with other Hawaiian Cement and subcontractor personnel to optimize production. Must be able to assist with other tasks as required not associated with Apprentice nor Terminal Operator tasks.
* Able to work effectively on odd shifts with minimal supervision. Available and willing to fill in extended hours on short notice as needed.
* Always works safely and takes action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors. Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Immediately informs supervisor of safety violations.
* Available for temporary transfer to other departments to do qualified work. Must be able to assist with other tasks as required.
* Promotes the company's Purpose, Mission, and Vision statements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Can use basic operator tools such as adjustable wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. Able to use tools correctly and safely.
* Meets Hawaiian Cement qualifications to operate light duty wheeled machinery.
* Must communicate clearly and professionally with supervisor, staff and co-workers and should refer inquires and questions to supervisor when dealing with customers, suppliers and inspectors.
* Must understand and follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to read and comprehend equipment and operations manuals.
* Able to work in varying environments, from air-conditioned office to dusty, noisy field conditions.
* Be physically able to climb stairs and ladders or other physically demanding tasks necessary in performing field inspections up to 80ft high.
* Must possess valid Hawaii State Driver's License and be able to operate a four ton forklift.
* Able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends, according to operational requirements.
* Must be able to work in a non-smoking workplace.
