About the Role:

Neurocrine is building a team of talented scientists with proven track records to drive biotherapeutic lead selection and pipeline progression of our cutting-edge antibody programs into the clinic. We are seeking a cell biologist responsible for establishing stable CHO cell line development capability to support production of antibodies and other protein therapeutic agents.

The Senior Scientist, Cell Line Development will lead the establishment of cell line development capability, including workspace design, planning and conduct of laboratory activities related to creating stable CHO cell lines and characterizing their titer, product quality profile and stability. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with expression vector construction, transfection and expansion of stable CHO pools and clonal selection of CHO cell lines in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company setting.

Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Set up cell line development processes and procedures

  • Carry out stable CHO transfections on antibody and bispecific programs

  • Design and carry out studies to optimize signal peptides and/or ratios for multiple chains

  • Expand stable CHO pools for protein expression purposes

  • Carry out clonal selection, fed batch evaluation, partnering with team members to evaluate titer, product quality attributes and assess cell line stability

  • Maintain appropriate documentation and prepare reports in support of regulatory filings

  • Serve as subject matter expert in interactions with CDMOs

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree and 4+ years of relevant experience OR

  • MS/MA degree and 3+ years of relevant experience OR

  • PhD or equivalent and some relevant experience in mammalian cell line development may include postdoc experience

  • Expert knowledge of molecular cloning, CHO expression vector construction and sequence analysis

  • In-depth knowledge of intellectual property landscape of host cell line and expression technology

  • Expert knowledge of mammalian protein expression technology and bispecific antibody cell line development

  • Extensive experience in creation, maintenance and characterization of clonal CHO cell lines from single cell cloning to RCB including selection of a final clone

  • Familiarity with therapeutic protein product quality metrics

  • Familiarity with CMC and regulatory requirements

  • Strong documentation management skills

  • Hands on experience with above and willingness to work in the lab

  • Expertise in laboratory operations, including budgeting, capex procurement and IQ/OQ, safety, and status reporting to Senior Management

  • Experience with biologics upstream process development a plus

  • Demonstrates solid level of understanding project / group goals and methods

  • Consistently recognizes anomalous and inconsistent results and interprets experimental outcomes

  • Able to explain the process behind the data and implications of the results

  • Strong knowledge of one or more scientific disciplines, becoming expert in one discipline

  • Strong knowledge of scientific principles, methods and techniques

  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated ability working with a variety of laboratory equipment/tools

  • Good statistical skills; hands-on experience with DOE study design and statistical analysis

  • Ability to work as part of a team; may train lower levels

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Strong communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills

  • Detail oriented yet can see broader picture of scientific impact on team

  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency

  • Strong project management skills to support and prioritize multiple projects

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $108,600.00-$157,350.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
