Summary Description:

Primary responsibility is the preparation and filing of monthly sales and use tax and various other tax returns. The Tax Analyst is responsible for sales and use tax GL account reconciliations, assist in the state and local apportionment calculation, research sales and use tax issues and point person on sales and use tax audits. In addition, the Tax Analyst will assist in the preparation of the annual corporate income tax return filings.

Qualifications

Key Accountabilities:

  • Extract data monthly from all SAP use and sales tax accrual accounts and Vertex for all companies.
  • Data is analyzed for accuracy.
  • File monthly (and/or quarterly as the case may be) tax returns to the appropriate states, the United Kingdom and Canada.
  • Reconcile tax accrual accounts, (i.e. sales/use, and property) monthly and enter data into Blackline during the close process quarterly.
  • Identify and troubleshoot all issues/problems with the sales/tax accrual accounts and work closely with the appropriate individuals/departments to resolve same.
  • Provide input to IT in resolving tax issues in SAP.
  • Lead troubleshooting of sales & use tax issues between SAP and Vertex.
  • Generate necessary journal voucher entries to mill accountants to balance sales/use tax accounts
  • Update the Vertex Database with the latest monthly update of state tax rates and geocode changes.
  • Prepare the Ohio Commercial Activity Tax quarterly, the annual New Jersey Litter Control Fee Tax Return, and the Los Angeles Business Tax License Renewal Return.
  • Prepare apportionment schedules for corporate income tax filings.
  • Run all reports for personal property tax filings for the mill
  • Provide data extraction for tax compliance and audits.
  • Prepare personal property tax returns for various warehouses
  • Maintain the sales and use tax calendar to ensure timely filing of all returns
  • Generate all check requests for tax department invoices and tax payments
  • Prepare all certified mail and the actual mailings.
  • Assist Tax Manager and Tax Director on projects as needed

  • Minimum 3-5 years

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

Skills:

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Team player with emphasis on safety first
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently and with various mill personnel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience with SAP a plus
  • Strong computer skills, with a thorough understanding of Excel spreadsheets
  • Vertex knowledge a plus
  • Blackline knowledge for the reconciliation process during close a plus
  • Cognos reporting software knowledge for extracting data from SAP a plus
  • Working knowledge of general accounting
