Position Highlights Dr. Leslie D. Gonzales, Professor and Director of the Center for the Study of Higher Education in the College of Education at the University of Arizona, is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Scholar with a background in higher education and qualitative methods.

The Post-Doctoral scholar will work on a collaborative, interdisciplinary NSF-funded mixed-methods project co-led by Drs. Leslie D. Gonzales (Co-Principal Investigator, University of Arizona), Isis Settles and Erin Cech, (University of Michigan), and Kendra Spence Cheruvelil, Georgina Montgomery, and Kevin Elliott (Michigan State University). The Post-Doctoral Scholar will primarily be advised by Dr. Gonzales and Dr. Cheruvelil and housed in the Center for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Arizona, where there is a vibrant community of higher education post-doctoral researchers.

The overarching goal of this 5-year project (2023-2028) is to document and better understand the longitudinal effects of academic climate(s) and the COVID-19 pandemic (CV19) on early-career STEM scholar experiences, career outcomes (productivity and attitudes), and professional pathways. The Post-Doctoral Scholar will be primarily involved with the conceptualization, implementation, and management of the project's qualitative component.

Opportunities for training, professional development, and conference attendance will be provided and time will be allotted for the postdoctoral research fellow to complete any existing independent research projects (e.g., publication of dissertation data). This position is remote eligible.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and implement interview protocols (e.g., conduct interviews)
  • Create and manage database for interview participants, including recruitment, member checking, incentives, etc.,
  • Data management through the use of qualitative software (e.g., Dedoose)
  • Manuscript preparation
  • Scholarly presentations
  • Organize and co-facilitate Team Meetings
  • Draft and submit human subject (IRB) applications
  • Prepare NSF and other reports

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional writing and communication skill
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned EdD or PhD in Higher Education or a related field upon hire.
  • Expertise concerning higher education/educational workplaces.
  • Qualitative research experience.
  • Experience with Qualitative Data Software (e.g., Dedoose, MaxQda).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated research expertise concerning the academic profession and/or workplace, such as workplace climate or culture.
  • Evidence of narrative (or similar) qualitative research experience, preferably interview experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability with qualitative project management.
  • Experience working with an interdisciplinary research team.
