POSITION SUMMARY

Sony Corporation of America is seeking an Director, Data , to join the CISD, GSIRT in Reston, VA.

Reporting to the Sr Director, this role sets the vision and strategy for the data platform, ensuring alignment with business goals and scalability. Responsibilities include overseeing data architecture, defining governance frameworks, and driving the development of scalable processes. Additionally, they will build and mentor a high-performing data team, raise data literacy, and ensure program execution aligns with enterprise architecture and security policies. This team is pivotal in securing Sony's information assets, building trust with customers, and protecting privacy.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision:

    • Set the vision and strategy for the data platform for Information Security operations, ensuring it aligns with the organization's business goals and future scalability.

    • Lead and oversee the development and execution of the long-term technology roadmaps across analytics, data engineering, and data platforms to drive innovation and scalability.

    • Provide thought leadership in emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the data ecosystem.

  • Data Architecture & Governance:

    • Provide leadership and oversight of the architecture of data systems, including log management systems, Security Information and Event Management(SIEM)platforms, databases, data warehouses, and data lakes, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance.

    • Define data governance frameworks, data standards, and best practices to ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility.

    • Establish and enforce data access controls, security measures, and compliance requirements across the organization.

    • Knowledge of how data platforms must be built to support large workloads, including model training, deployment, and monitoring, ensuring teams can efficiently use the platform for their needs

  • Operational Excellence:

    • Drive the development and implementation of scalable extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes to enable seamless data ingestion from multiple sources.

    • Lead data infrastructure optimization efforts to enhance performance, reduce costs, and support future growth.

    • Simplify the existing data architecture by delivering reusable services and optimizing resource utilization.

  • Business Alignment & Collaboration:

    • Partner with key business stakeholders to uncover opportunities, translate business needs into data solutions, and secure strong engagement.

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to prototype and develop minimum viable data products that deliver tangible business value.

    • Ensure data products and services are embedded into business workflows and their impact is continuously measured.

  • Innovation & Technology Adoption:

    • Evaluate, recommend, and implement emerging technologies for data management, storage, and analytics.

    • Foster a culture of innovation by exploring new data sources and analytical methods to meet evolving business needs.

    • Lead initiatives to drive the adoption of AI/ML technologies in a secure manner to enhance data-driven decision-making.

  • People Leadership & Development:

    • Build and mentor a high-performing data team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

    • Raise the level of data literacy within the organization through evangelization, training, and awareness initiatives.

    • Define objectives and key results (OKRs), key performance indicators (KPIs), strategic risk indicators, and metrics to assess program(s) and team(s) performance and success.

  • Program Execution & Governance:

    • Drive execution of data initiatives through the full lifecycle from RFP to deployment, following the Plan, Do, Check, Act model.

    • Ensure alignment of data initiatives with enterprise architecture and security policies, standards and governance frameworks.

    • Regularly communicate insights and updates to leadership, influencing strategic decisions.

  • Honesty, trustworthiness and ethical conduct are material requirements for the responsibilities outlined above

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

Your qualifications and experience should include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in data platform architecture, data management, and data product development.

  • Proven leadership experience in managing enterprise-level data initiatives, aligning technology strategies with business goals.

  • Expertise in modern data architectures, including data lakes, data warehouses, streaming data, and cloud platforms, with the ability to ensure proper implementation rather than hands-on execution

  • Understanding of AI/ML, advanced analytics, and data science needs, ensuring platforms and strategies enable innovation and insights. Understanding of how data platforms must be built to support large workloads, including model training, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Extensive experience in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with a strong understanding of their data services.

  • Leadership or hands-on experience deploying, maintaining, and operating enterprise grade log management systems and SIEMs.

  • Proficiency in modern data technologies, and distributed data processing.

  • Strong understanding of data modeling, metadata management, and data quality management.

  • Hands-on experience with data visualization and BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.

  • Strong knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to influence senior stakeholders.

  • Experience leading agile data teams and delivering results in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to align data strategies with corporate objectives.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $205,000 to $215,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
