Job Overview:

Massman Construction Co. is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to undertake a wide range of tasks including hands-on management of all accounting activities associated with the equipment department and assisting with job cost accounting. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with little supervision and must be organized, flexible and enjoy the variety of work available when working in a small department. The office environment is informal but professional, requiring quality work and individual initiative. Communication skills and attention to detail are very important and confidentiality is a must.

Work Schedule and Location:




  • This is an on-site position based in Overland Park, KS.
  • Business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial close process
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations
  • Assist with job cost accounting
  • Establish and manage project records including initial set-up, budget, phase codes, and cost types
  • Manage cost estimates and monthly projections within the accounting system
  • Handle subcontract accounting activities including but not limited to reviewing initial agreements and change orders, subcontractor set-up, pay applications, compliance (as necessary), and close-out procedures
  • Work with project personnel to monitor project costs, revenue, and profitability
  • Manage all accounting activities for the equipment department (billing, transfers, depreciation, purchases/sales, reporting, etc.)
  • Prepare annual property tax renditions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to propose and implement improvements to processes and procedures
  • Assist with external audit process by providing necessary schedules and documentation



Other:



  • Represent the company in a professional and congenial manner in person, in telephone conversations, and in written correspondence
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed



Qualifications and Skills:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience, construction experience a plus
  • Strong work ethic and sense of ownership over work product
  • Attention to detail and an ability to approach problems in an analytical manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (particularly business email writing knowledge)
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate across all levels of personnel
  • Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize responsibilities and demands
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Discreet handling of confidential information
  • Vista by Viewpoint (or similar construction ERP) experience preferred
  • CPA preferred, but not required
