In the role of Cultural Resource Specialist II, we'll count on you to:
The primary duty of the Cultural Resource Specialist 2 is to support clients with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Alaska Historic Preservation Act (AHPA) compliance and coordination activities for a variety of development projects in Alaska. Tasks may include agreement document preparation, finding of effect recommendations, consultation planning, fieldwork, and associated reporting. The successful candidate will be familiar with cultural resources management, research and documentation, fieldwork and technical writing, and consultation with tribal entities and diverse stakeholders.
The Cultural Resources Specialist 2 will be also responsible for fieldwork planning, execution, and documentation; preparation of state and federal land access permit applications; maintaining Quality Control review processes; interpreting field data in reports; preparing cultural resources desktop studies and data gap analyses; and writing the cultural resources sections in NEPA documents. The successful candidate may also serve as a task lead or project manager.
The successful candidate may be required to lead or participate in Phase I, II, or III field surveys, excavation, and archaeological monitoring. They will work independently and may assist senior scientists on larger projects. They must demonstrate commitment to data confidentiality agreements and commit to professional ethics standards.

  • Perform complex assignments, exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard science techniques and procedures for archaeological and historic structure projects
  • Make decisions on significant design and scientific procedures, taking responsibility for survey data compilation, assessment, analysis within historic contexts, historic context development, and report writing
  • Function as Technical Specialist, Field Supervisor or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not sole focus of position
  • Supervise a group of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
  • SOI-qualifications as an Archaeologist.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in cultural resource projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of and experience with project compliance-related activities including consultation, quality assurance and reviews
  • Willingness to work under varied weather conditions
  • Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
