Government and Cost Accountant

Description

We are looking for an experienced Government and Cost Accountant to join our team in the Meriden, CT office. In this role, you will report to the Sr. Finance Manager to help ensure the financial integrity of government contracts, manage cost structures, and support our mission of excellence in radiation detection and protection.

Tasks and Responsibilities

In this important role, you will take ownership of various accounting and compliance functions. You will work closely with internal teams to ensure regulatory adherence and provide financial insights. Responsibilities include:



  • Utilizing cost accounting systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. This includes allowable/unallowable T&E expenses.
  • Preparing and submitting financial reports for government contracts in alignment with FAR and CAS regulations.
  • Collaborating with project teams to track costs and maintain budgets for contracts.
  • Supporting regular audits to ensure compliance with federal and organizational guidelines.
  • Assisting with pricing strategies for government proposals, ensuring transparency and fairness.


In addition to Government activities, this role will also assist with general cost accounting activities, including but not limited to:



  • Annual physical inventory support.
  • Annual cost roll, including rate development and material cost updates.
  • Efficiency metric reporting - scrap, excess & obsolete inventory, variance reporting.
  • Support Percent of Completion Contracts (POC) as needed.



Required Skills and Knowledge

To excel in this role, you will need a combination of technical expertise and problem-solving abilities. We are looking for someone with:



  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in government or cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or technical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset.

    3-5 years of experience in government or cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or technical industry. (required)
