Summary:

The Vice Chair of Research (Psychological Services & Behavioral Health Service Line) is responsible for the elevation of the academic profile of the Psychological Services & Behavioral Health Service Line through visionary leadership and administrative oversight. In addition to their role as a Behavioral Health Research Scientist, the Vice Chair will lead the way in advancing our understanding of the complex child and adolescent emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and developmental conditions and contribute to the development of innovative diagnostic tools and treatment strategies that enhance outcomes across a system of care.

The Vice Chair is supported by the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute (RDCRI), the Lois and John Orr Family Behavioral Health Center, and Akron Children's Hospital (ACH). The position reports to the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.

The effectiveness of the Vice Chair is demonstrated through high quality, evidence based, clinical and translational research and educational activities. In partnership with the RDCRI Director of Scientific Affairs & Clinical Trials, the Vice Chair will align the areas of scientific inquiry with the strategic initiatives, vision and mission of Akron Children's.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, and industry partners, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and transforming the field of child and adolescent mental/behavioral, developmental, and substance use conditions. This position is equivalent in rank to an academic Assistant, Vice or Full Professor, depending on experience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates support for the mission, vision, policies, programs and other initiatives of the organization and Service Line.
  2. Serves as the Service Line principal lead for all research activities.
  3. Contributes to the on-boarding and orientation process for new Service Line scientists.
  4. Works with RDCRI leadership to implement and support a comprehensive process for ongoing academic development and accountability
  5. Participates in ongoing evaluation of Service Line Scientists and provides formative feedback to ensure improvement in all facets of their work.
  6. Seeks out, develops, and capitalizes on synergies and collaborative opportunities with other Service Lines and practices that support strong and positive relationships/partnerships.
  7. Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

  1. Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
  2. Skilled in communicating evidence-based practice findings to diverse audiences.
  3. Ability to develop and deliver evidence-based practice education and training materials to diverse audiences.
  4. Experience in developing and implementing evidence-based practice programs.
  5. Experience supervising academic staff and developing scientists.
  6. Experience in developing and managing research projects.
  7. Experience in grant writing.
  8. Commitment to growing literacy and effectiveness in the use of the MS 365 suite and AI-tools.
  9. Experience working with electronic medical record software, such as EPIC, is preferred.

Education and Experience

  1. Relevant experience contributing and overseeing research programs
  2. Grant writing and conducting research experience
  3. Education: Doctorate required
