Senior Manufacturing Engineer

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

This position is accountable for directing, planning, coordinating and implementing processes and methods required for premier HVAC manufacturing, and leadership of or participation in process improvement teams. This position is involved in projects to increase plant capacity, improve product quality, and improve process safety utilizing barrier removal techniques and data driven problem solving techniques such as five-step or Kepner Tregoe methods.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Processes and documents engineering changes and modifications.

Works to resolve and prevent trouble-shooting production issues and equipment.

Optimizes workstation layout, equipment justification, specification and installation.

Works with Product Design to introduce new products to UPG Operations.

Supports and implements Lean Manufacturing techniques, Kaizen events, etc.

Performs data analysis to assess process capability and implement improvements

Supports an 80%/20% factory focused support requirement. (80% floor, 20% Desk)

Daily area support to successfully drive plant performance metrics

Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering within an HVAC, automotive, or related industry.

  • Experience in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Prior experience with HVAC equipment manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, assembly processes, and automation is preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in manufacturing processes such as metal forming, welding, brazing, CNC machining, injection molding, and assembly operations.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) for designing tools, jigs, and fixtures.

  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for production planning and materials management.

  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC), process capability analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).

  • Ability to implement automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 technologies to optimize production efficiency.

Process & Quality Improvement:

  • Strong experience in lean manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and root cause analysis techniques

  • Ability to drive cost reduction initiatives, improve cycle times, and enhance overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

  • Experience in DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles.

Leadership & Communication:

  • Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills with production, quality, design, and supply chain teams.

  • Ability to train and mentor junior engineers and production staff in best practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation, presentations, and reports.

  • Strong ability to manage, control, and delivery upon multiple projects simultaneously.

Other Desirable Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, PMP, or Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) are a plus.

  • Experience working with regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, UL, ASHRAE, etc.) in an HVAC manufacturing setting.

  • Ability to manage capital expenditure (CapEx) projects for new equipment and production lines.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ASHRAE standards related to HVAC manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of PowerBI applications, SQL,

  • Knowledge of HVAC components and systems, including refrigeration circuits, air handling units, and heat exchangers.
